- Version 3.0s Changes -

The following changes have been incorporated into this version
of the program and are not covered in the remainder of the
documentation. Two new reports have been added they are
(H) Serial Number-this report list the Item, Manufactuer, Model#
and Serial#; (I) Description- list Item, Model, Serial#, Date
Purchased, Purchase Price, Place Purchased, Replacement Price,
Description and Warranty Expiration Date. Both reports can be
listed to the screen, printer or disk. See page 14 for a complete
description of the other 7 reports.

The Index files have been modified so that when items are listed
indexed by Category, Location, or Owner, the item name is listed in
alphabetical order within the applicable index. Only the first three
letters of the item name is alphabetized.

If you have files created with versions 2.0, 2.1, 2.11 or 2.12, you must
re-index the files, by selecting item #5 from the main menu, prior to
selecting item 1 from the main menu. If your version is 1.5 or earlier,
you must contact TurboSystemsCo for a program to convert these files to
the new format.

* INTRODUCTION *

Welcome to Household Register (HR). HR is a fast easy to learn
and use software package that permits you to maintain a detailed
list of your possessions. If you are typical, you have no acc-
urate inventory of your household possessions.

That's what HR is for. By recording your possessions using HR,
you will have a permanent record of your possessions which can
be used in case of loss or damage by fire, flood, windstorm,
burglary, vandalism etc. Even if these events do not occur,
using HR is ideal for warranty purposes; for example if you re-
quire repairs or servicing for warranty work, having the model
number, serial number and the warranty expiration date will help
facilitate service.

HR also provides the total value of your possessions which will
provide you with an accurate figure to assists in determining the
amount of insurance to carry. You can compute the value using
purchase cost or replacement cost.

HR is the best inventory program available. If you use it to
record your possessions and keep it up to date, it will eliminate
much trouble and anguish in case of disaster. Once you record
your inventory using HR, please store a backup data disk and one
of the inventory listings in a secure place away from your home.
You may want to give a copy to your insurance agent or company.

location and owner pop-up menu fields.

============================== 5 ==============================

** Install Video Type/Colors **

The purpose of this function is to allow you to (1) select the
video type (color or Mono), (2) change the colors of fields and
prompts if you have a color monitor and wish to do so, (3) change
the cursor shape and (4) select the date style ie, american

See page 17 for more information.

** Re-Index Inventory Files **

HR data file indexes are contained in four index files, *.H1,*.H2
*.H3 and *.H4. Occasionally indexes become corrupted, that is
the index data looses its relationship with the data file from
which it was generated. One of the causes of index corruption is
the loss of electrical power to accidental or natural causes.
One symptom of corrupted indexes is receiving an "unexpected
end of file" message and the program terminating.

The purpose of this function is to regenerate corrupted index
files so the program will function normally.

** Set Datafile Path **

This selection allows you to select any valid drive/path to store
your datafiles.

** Print Documentation **

This selection prints the on disk documentation (this file).

** Registration/Order Form

** INFORMATION FIELDS **

Each of your inventory items can be described by storing infor-
mation in the following fields:

*Category *Item Quantity
*Owner *Location Manufacturer
Model # Serial# Description
Date Purchased Where Purchased Purchase Price
**Total Price Replace Price **Total Rep Price
Warranty Expiration Date

* Category, Owner, Location and Item are key fields. The inven-
tory is indexed on these four fields. These fields are used with
the FIND Function to rapidly display inventory listings to the
screen. They are also used to list your reports indexed by one of
the four fields.

** Total Price\Replace Price is a computed field calculated by
multiplying the Purchase Price\Replace Price times the Quantity.
You cannot edit the Total Price field.

When you enter any of these fields (Category, Owner, Location)
a menu pops-up with selections to choose from. The menus for
category and Location offers 24 choices to select from, however
only eight are displayed in the menu at a time. To see the ad-
ditional choices use the Page Up and Page Down keys. You can
make a selection by positioning (using the UP or DOWN Arrow Keys)
the highlight bar over your choice and pressing RETURN or you
can press the letter displayed by each menu item. The menu item
does not have to be displayed in the menu to use the letter sel-

* THE FIND FUNCTION *

The Find key lets you rapidly display your inventory indexed
by Category, Owner, Location or Item. When you select FIND by
pressing F when the Command Line is displayed; you will receive
the following prompt:

Search Inventory File On Key: CATEGORY

You can use the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys to cycle through the
four key fields (CATEGORY, OWNER, LOCATION, ITEM) and press RETURN
to select the key field displayed. Also, you can press the ESC
key to exit from the Find Function.

After you made your key field selection, the prompt below is
displayed:

Enter Category To Find or RETURN For All

If you had selected Owner, Location or Item for the key field,
Owner, Location or Item would be displayed in the above prompt
instead of category.

If you pressed the RETURN key instead of entering a string, the
complete inventory file will be listed indexed by the key
selected. If Category is the selected key and you entered
Appliances as the search string, then all of your appliances
would be displayed. You don't have to enter a complete word for
the program to match, if you just entered the letter A, the
program would display all categories that started with A.

Items that match the search string are listed on the Find Dis-
play Screen. You can use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to highlight
the record you want displayed on the Main Screen. Press RETURN
when the record is highlighted will display the complete record
on the Main Screen. Also you can use the PG UP and PG DN keys
to page through the Find Display Screen. Use the Right Arrow
key to scroll the screen to see all the fields.

If the search string is not found, the prompt below is displayed.
Key Not Found !!! (Press Any Key)
The Find Function can quickly display all items in your inventory
located in the Kitchen or any other location desired by using the
location key.

You can also quickly list the items a particular member of the
family owns by using the Owner key.

By using the Item key, you can quickly display all your items
in alphabetical order or find and individual item.

============================== 11 =============================

* SEARCHING *

While the Find function lets you perform searches, it can only
be used with one of the four key fields. The Search function
lets you perform searches on up to eight fields. When search
is selected from the Command Line of the Main Screen by pressing
S on your keyboard the Selector Screen shown below is displayed.

============================== 12 =============================

** SELECTOR FIELDS **

There are four fields on the screen used to set up the search
criteria: Field, Comparator, Value and LogOp.

Field A menu pops-up displaying the fourteen fields that
can be tested. Make a selection from the menu.

Operator A menu pops-up with the seven operators. This field
specifies the type of test you want to make.

Value Enter the value to be compared/tested.

LogOp Select AND/OR from the pop-up menu to enter addit-
ional selection criteria. Select END to complete
entering data or press F10.

The combination of a field, a operator and a value forms a basic
selection criteria. When more than one basic criteria is joined
together by a LogOp, this forms a selection pair.

The program works by evaluating each selection pair (if they
exist) separately and combining them progressively from top to
bottom to determine if each record in the inventory file meets
the selection criteria.

Using the selector screen HR can perform very powerful searches.
After setting up your selection criteria, press C for continue
and the search process begins. A screen identical to the Main
Screen will be displayed with the following prompt at the bottom
of the screen:

********** Searching **********

The above prompt will flash while HR is searching the inventory
file for matches. When a match is found, the menu below is dis-
played at the bottom of the screen:
Next, Edit, Quit

Next will start the search process again to find the next match.

Edit functions the same as the Edit function on the Main Screen.
Any changes made are incorporated into the inventory file.

Quit stops the search and returns you to the Main Screen.

When the search process is complete, the following message is
displayed:

Search Complete -- Records Read = XXX Matches = XX PRESS ANY KEY

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
