þ Mouse users can just "Click" on any function. Keyboard users can use the TAB
or Arrow keys, or press the ALT key and the highlighted letter of the
function.

þ File Extensions indicate type of Form:
.FMS - A Form that already has been made and may or may not be filled in.
.FM_ - A Master Form
.FM@ - A Form that has been saved by Dr. Form in an Ascii format.
These forms do not have any formatting (such as bold, italics,
etc.)

þ Fill In a Form - Open any Form in FILL IN Mode. Once a form has been made
in MASTER Mode, it may be filled in in this mode. All
characters of the Master Form are Protected and cannot be
written over except the Underline Character.

þ New Master Form - Start a New Master Form.

þ Edit Master Form - Edits a Master Form. If a .FMS or .FM@ form is opened and
saved in this mode it will become a Master Form with the
.FM_ extension (the old files will still exist). All
characters of the .FM@ (or an Ascii File) will become
protected. However, when a .FMS form is loaded in this
mode, the unprotected characters (if any) will remain
unprotected. It is not recommended to load .FMS forms in
Master Mode. (see the manual)

þ Delete a Form - Deletes a Form or File.
.COM and .EXE Files cannot be deleted.

þ Exit - Exits to DOS Pressing ALT X will also exit to DOS

þ To the right of the Master Menu is the File List. This lists the Forms in
alphabetical order. To scan the files use the Page Up, Page Down, Arrow Keys,
or with the mouse, use the scroll bar on the right. Also, if you know the
first letter of the file you are looking for just press that letter on the
keyboard.

þ ALT H - Is always available for Help.
Help is context sensitive. That is, it will be given for whatever
area of the program that you are in.

þ ALT R - Will allow you to change the path and drive so that you can load and
& save files from different paths and drives. Left Clicking the down
ALT A arrow in the Drive Box will drop it down to show what valid drives
your computer has.
NOTE: When using the mouse only a Single Click is needed on the
Drive Box, but a Double Click is needed on the Path Box.

þ ALT F - Toggles back and forth between Dr. Form Files and All Files. When
All Files are shown you can load any Ascii file as long as it doesn't
contain lines longer that 136 characters maximum. An Ascii file will
be truncated after the 63rd line if it is longer.

þ ALT P - Use to select the Printer you are using. If you can't find yours,
experiment to find the one closest to it. Selecting PLAIN PRINTER
will work on almost any printer but will only print the Ascii
characters and will not support Bold, Italics, etc.

þ ALT U - Will return to the default drive and path that Dr. Form was run
from.

þ ESC - Will cancel any activity that you are doing.
NOTE: When working on a Form, Right Clicking the mouse is the same
as the ESC key. However, when a WINDOW is open, the right
mouse button has no effect. The window must be closed first.


þ When saving a MASTER FORM a .BAK file will be made if the form already exists.

þ When saving a form in FILL IN mode or saving as an Ascii file a .BAK file
will not be made.

þ Right clicking the mouse is the same as pressing the ESC key.
Left clicking the mouse will re-locate the cursor.

þ The 1st row contains the major special functions. Just Left Click on them,
or press ALT and the Highlighted letter.

þ The 24th row is for mouse users. On the far left and far right are the
characters used for scrolling. The arrows will scroll 1 row, or 1 column,
while the others will scroll a full page. When END is visible, it is the
same as pressing the END key. When "UnDo" is visible, it will UNDO the
last major thing that you did. (Keyboard users: ALT O will activate "UnDo".
ALT H will activate HELP.

þ Clicking on "IBM Character Set" will open the window below it. Clicking on
"+" or "-" will scroll through them. Pressing any of the Function Keys
(F1 - F10) will print that character at the screen cursor location.

þ "MouseSc" turns MouseScroll on and off. When MouseScroll is on, scrolling is
accomplished by simply pushing the mouse cursor against the edges of the
screen. When a Major Function is in use, MouseScroll is "Locked" on.
To invoke a Major Function on the 1st row when MouseScroll is turned on, first
Right Click the mouse once. This will "temporairly" turn off MouseScroll to
give you access to the 1st row.

ESC (Right Click) Exit current activity and show options
TAB Moves cursor right 8 spaces (In FILL IN Mode moves cursor to the
next Tab position)
SHIFT TAB Back Tab
ENTER Moves cursor to first position on next line (In FILL IN Mode moves
cursor to the first Tab position below the current Row)
HOME Moves cursor to first position on line (In FILL IN Mode moves
cursor to the first Tab position on the form.
END Moves cursor to last character on line
SHIFT HOME Moves cursor to upper left corner
SHIFT END Moves cursor to lower left corner
SHIFT ENTER Places character that the cursor is under in the Duplicate Buffer
A click will be heard to confirm this
INSERT Inserts text
DELETE Deletes text
SHIFT INSERT Inserts a new blank row (N/A in FILL IN Mode)
SHIFT DELETE Deletes current row (N/A in FILL IN Mode)

ALT J Toggles the cursor location between Row & Column and Inches
ALT K Selects whether the Screen or Mouse cursor is displayed

CTRL C Center Text (Centers according to column width, or centers text
within boxes. See manual for details) N/A in FILL IN Mode
CTRL E Erases from cursor to end of line (In FILL IN Mode only erases
non-protected characters)
CTRL A Erases from cursor to end of form (In FILL IN Mode only erases
non-protected characters)
CTRL F Disables Form Feed (see manual: Making Labels)
CTRL M Toggles between color & monochrome (N/A in MASTER Mode)
CTRL T Prints current time CTRL SHIFT T Prints 'Time Stamp' (see manual)
CTRL D Prints current date CTRL SHIFT D Prints 'Date Stamp' (see manual)

þ Keyboard Users:
ALT 0 (on the keyboard) - Opens the window for the IBM extended character set.
ALT + and ALT - (on the keyboard) - Steps through the IBM extended
character set. Characters in gray are not supported by the
currently selected Printer.
F1 to F10 - Print the corresponding IBM character in the current window.

þ Double Width characters will always be followed by a Dot. This is for
Printing purposes and also to maintain continuity on the screen.

þ When using Double Height characters you must leave the space above them blank.

þ Use the cursor keys or Left Click on one of the printer selections in the left
box. When using the mouse, a single click will show what print styles are
supported by that particular printer. If your printer doesn't appear on the
list, then experiment to find the one that will work best. Most printers
today are compatable with one of the Epson or IBM selections. For the
LaserJet printers, refer to the manual for detailed information.

þ Selecting PLAIN PRINTER will work on almost any printer, but will not support
formating (Bold, Italics, etc.)

þ After you select a printer, either press the ENTER key, double click on it
with the mouse or click on OK.

þ The program does not inhibit print styles when you are making a form. So make
sure that if you are using styles such as 'Double Height' that your printer
will support them.

þ Either Left Click on your choice, or press the letter that is highlighted.

þ S - Save

þ Q - Quit and go back to the Menu. If you have made changes you will be
asked if you want to Save them.

þ P - Print Form on your Printer.

þ T - Set or Remove Tab Stops in your Form.

þ ESC - Resume making or filling in your Form.

þ The Form Name can be any name accepted by DOS. The extension is added
automatically (Do NOT enter an extension).

þ Extensions:
.FMS A form already made and may or may not be already filled in.
.FM_ A Master Form
.FM@ A form saved in Ascii format by Dr. Form


þ FORMATTED - Selecting "No" will save the form in an Ascii format so that it
can be read by other programs. It will create a new file with
the .FM@ extension. All formatting will be lost. But don't
worry, the .FMS or FM_ file will still be there unless this
is a New Form in which case you should save it again by selecting
"Yes" in this field.

þ DRIVE & PATH - The same as in the Master Menu. You can change them by
using the TAB key to get there, pressing ALT and the highlighted
letter, or using the mouse. Clicking on the arrow on the right
of the Drive Box will drop the box down to show all available
drives on your computer.
NOTE: When using the mouse only a Single Click is needed on the
Drive Box, but a Double Click is needed on the Path Box.


þ DEFAULT PATH - Will return to the default drive and path that Dr. Form was
was run from.

þ You have made at least one change to the Form since it was loaded.

þ Enter Y to save it.

þ Enter N to leave the Form as it was before you loaded it.

þ All existing Tab Stops will be highlighted.

þ TABS can only be set on blank spaces, or on an Underline Character.

þ To set a TAB press any letter key and the TAB will be set.
To remove a TAB place the cursor under the TAB and press any letter key.

þ With the mouse, just Left Click on the spot where you want to set or remove
a TAB.

þ CTRL-Z Removes all TABS.

þ Press ESC when finished. Tab Stops are saved with the Form.

þ Use the Number keys to select the number of copies.
Pressing the letter "C" will clear the counter back to 1.

þ The default values for printing are 10 Characters per inch, Bi-directional,
and either Utility, or Roman (Letter Quality if your printer supports it).

þ Note that areas that are not supported by your printer will be "grayed out".

þ If you want to select CHARACTERS/INCH or PRINT STYLE directly from your
printer, then select the "Manual" option.

þ To make a selection with the keyboard, use the Tab key to select the
appropriate box, and then use the arrow keys to make your selection.
Mouse users can just Left Click on their choice.

þ The printer currently in use will be displayed at the top of the window.
Select CHANGE PRINTER to select another one. When you select a new printer
the options will return to their default values.

þ Select "Landscape" to print sideways on the paper. (Laser printers only)

þ Select "Legal" size to print forms longer than 63 Rows.

þ ESC Cancels printing.

þ Position the cursor at the top left corner of the area that you want to MOVE.
This must be done "before" you invoke MOVE. Now either Left Click MOVE,
press ALT V or CTRL F1.

þ Now "highlight" the area to be moved.
With the mouse Left Click the bottom right of the area to be "Moved" (DON'T
drag the mouse). Notice that MouseScroll is "locked" on. If the area that
you want to "Move" is beyond the physical boundaries of the screen, just push
the mouse against the edges of the screen.
NOTE: You can not highlight an area that is above, or to the left of your
starting point. When you position the mouse in this area the mouse
cursor will turn red with a black "X" in it.

With the keyboard, use the cursor keys for highlighting.

þ Now Left Click on END or press the END key. If you have hightlighted an area
that went past the boundaries of the screen, the screen will relocate to your
starting point and a white "rectangle" will appear outlining the area to be
"Moved".

þ Use the cursor keys, or just move the mouse until the rectangle is in the new
position that you want it.

þ Left Click the mouse, or press the INSERT key. The old area will be erased
and the block of text will be moved to the new area.

þ If you don't like the new position, just move the mouse again, or use the
cursor keys. The rectangle will reappear again. Reposition it and repeat
the previous step.

þ If you make a mistake, or just don't like what you have done, you can UNDO
it. As long as "UnDo" is visible on the 24th line you can press ALT O, or
Left Click on it and it will UNDO the last thing you did.

þ Right Click the mouse, or press the ESC key when you are finished.

þ Position the cursor at the top left corner of the area that you want to COPY.
This must be done "before" you invoke COPY. Now either Left Click COPY,
press ALT Y or CTRL F2.

þ Now "highlight" the area to be copied.
With the mouse Left Click the bottom right of the area to be "Copied" (DON'T
drag the mouse). Notice that MouseScroll is "locked" on. If the area that
you want to "Copy" is beyond the physical boundaries of the screen, just push
the mouse against the edges of the screen.
NOTE: You can not highlight an area that is above, or to the left of your
starting point. When you position the mouse in this area the mouse
cursor will turn red with a black "X" in it.

With the keyboard, use the cursor keys for highlighting.

þ Now Left Click on END or press the END key. If you have hightlighted an area
that went past the boundaries of the screen, the screen will relocate to your
starting point and a white "rectangle" will appear outlining the area to be
"Copied".

þ Use the cursor keys, or just move the mouse until the rectangle is in the new
position that you want it.

You can copy the block of text as many times as you want in as many places as
you want. You can use this to create interesting patterns.

þ If you make a mistake, or just don't like what you have done, you can UNDO
it. As long as "UnDo" is visible on the 24th line you can press ALT O, or
Left Click on it and it will UNDO the last thing you did.

þ Right Click the mouse, or press the ESC key when you are finished.

þ Position the cursor at the top left corner of the area that you want to ERASE.
This must be done "before" you invoke ERASE. Now either Left Click ERASE,
press ALT E or CTRL F3.

þ Now "highlight" the area to be erased.
With the mouse Left Click the bottom right of the area to be "Erased" (DON'T
drag the mouse). Notice that MouseScroll is "locked" on. If the area that
you want to "Erase" is beyond the physical boundaries of the screen, just push
the mouse against the edges of the screen.
NOTE: You can not highlight an area that is above, or to the left of your
starting point. When you position the mouse in this area the mouse
cursor will turn red with a black "X" in it.
With the keyboard, use the cursor keys for highlighting.

þ Now Left Click on END or press the END key. The area that was highlighted
will now be erased.

þ Position the cursor at the top left corner of the GRID location
This must be done "before" you invoke GRID. Now either Left Click GRID,
press ALT G or CTRL F4.

þ A bright white asterisk will appear at the top left position of the GRID.

þ Use the Mouse or the Cursor, Tab, and Enter Keys to position the cursor to the
positions along the top and left sides of the GRID area where you want lines
to be drawn.

þ Press S for Single Lines
Press D for Double Lines

þ Press any other letter key to place an asterisk at the position. The size
and layout of the GRID will be determined by where you place the Asterisks.

þ With the Mouse Left Click on each position to place an asterisk. If the GRID
will extend beyond the physical boundaries of the screen just push the mouse
cursor against the edges of the screen.
NOTE: An asterisk can only be placed below and to the right of the starting
point, and it must be exactly vertical or horizontal to it. If you
move the mouse cursor outside of these limits it will turn red with
a black "X" in it. Left Clicking when the mouse cursor is red will
have no effect.

þ Left Click on END or press the END key when finished.

þ Right Click or press the ESC key to cancel.

þ If you make a mistake, or just don't like what you have done, you can UNDO
it. As long as "UnDo" is visible on the 24th line you can press ALT O, or
Left Click on it and it will UNDO the last thing you did.

þ HINT: If you are making a GRID that will have Column Headings you may want
to lay out and position the Column Headings first and then draw the
GRID "around" them.

þ Press S for Single Lines
Press D for Double Lines

þ With the keyboard use the cursor keys to draw lines.

þ Mouse users:
DON'T drag the mouse.
Lines are drawn by Left Clicking the mouse. They are drawn FROM the
starting point (which is the "screen cursor") TO the "mouse cursor". A line
must be exactly vertical or horizontal with the starting point. If you go
outside these boundaries, the mouse cursor will turn red with a black "X" in
it. Left Clicking when the mouse cursor is red will make that position a
"new" starting point.
You can draw lines beyond the physical boundaries of the screen by pushing
the mouse cursor against the edges of the screen.

þ All users:
SHIFT + (one of the cursor keys) will draw a line in that direction
from the cursor up to the first position that is not a "Space".

Press E to Erase. The cursor keys will now Erase anything in their path.
Press P to Pause. You may now move the cursor to a new location.
Press R to Resume drawing lines.

þ "UnDo" will UNDO the last line that was drawn. Either Left Click on "UnDo"
or press ALT O.

þ Right Click the mouse or press the ESC key when finished.

þ This function is similiar to Draw Lines, except that instead of using the line
drawing characters it will DUPLICATE the Character in the Duplicate Buffer.
This character is shown on the 25th line. To put a character in the Duplicate
Buffer, press Pause and put the cursor under the desired character. Now press
SHIFT ENTER (a click will be heard to confirm this). When not in DUPLICATE
Mode, pressing SHIFT ENTER at anytime will do this. You can DUPLICATE all
of the IBM Extended Character Set.

þ With the keyboard use the cursor keys to Duplicate.

þ Mouse users:
DON'T drag the mouse.
Characters are duplicated by Left Clicking the mouse. They are duplicated
FROM the starting point (which is the "screen cursor") TO the "mouse
cursor". The mouse cursor must be exactly vertical or horizontal with the
starting point. If you go outside these boundaries, the mouse cursor will
turn red with a black "X" in it. Left Clicking when the mouse cursor is red
will make that position a "new" starting point.

þ All users:

corresponding direction, from the cursor up to the first position that is
not a "Space".

Press P to Pause. You may now move the cursor to a new location.
Press R to Resume DUPLICATING.

þ "UnDo" will UNDO the last line that was duplicated. Either Left Click on
"UnDo" or press ALT O.

þ Right Click the mouse or press the ESC key when finished.

þ You cannot DUPLICATE Double With or Double Height characters.

þ This function FILLS all Empty Spaces in an area with the character in the
Duplicate Buffer. Anything else is left untouched.
This character is shown on the 25th line. To change the character in the
Duplicate Buffer, exit FILL and put the cursor under the desired character.
Now press SHIFT ENTER (a click will be heard to confirm this). Now, select
FILL again. You can FILL with any character, including those in the IBM
Extended Character Set.

þ Position the cursor at the top left corner of the area that you want to FILL.
This must be done "before" you invoke FILL. Now either Left Click FILL,
press ALT F or CTRL F7.

þ Now "highlight" the area to be filled.
With the mouse Left Click the bottom right of the area to be "Filled" (DON'T
drag the mouse). Notice that MouseScroll is "locked" on. If the area that
you want to "Fill" is beyond the physical boundaries of the screen, just push
the mouse against the edges of the screen.
NOTE: You can not highlight an area that is above, or to the left of your
starting point. When you position the mouse in this area the mouse
cursor will turn red with a black "X" in it.

þ Now Left Click on END or press the END key. All the blank spaces in the area
that was highlighted will now be filled in.

þ If you make a mistake, or just don't like what you have done, you can UNDO
it. As long as "UnDo" is visible on the 24th line you can press ALT O, or
Left Click on it and it will UNDO the last thing you did.

þ NOTE: All these functions can also be selected from the keyboard when
working on a form.

þ Keyboard users:
Use the TAB key to move to the different boxes, and then use the arrow
keys to make your selection. You can also press ALT plus the
highlighted letter.

þ Mouse users:
Just click on your selection.

þ Bold & Underline are not valid with Superscript, Subscript and Condensed.

þ CURSOR LOCATION:
ALT J will toggle this when you are working on a form. Determines
whether the cursor location is given in Row & Column or in Inches.
When you select Inches it is accurate whether you are using 10, 12
or 15 CPI.

þ WHICH CURSOR:
ALT K will toggle this when you are working on a form. Either the
Screen Cursor or the Mouse Cursor can be tracked.

þ FILL IN MODE ONLY:
CTRL M will toggle this when you are filling in a form. This is
only valid when in FILL IN Mode. It will be grayed out when you are
in MASTER Mode. When you select "Master Form in Monochrome" the
MASTER Form will be in monochrome, but the parts you fill in will still
be in color. This can make it easier when filling out a form.
