Since releasing version 1.0 of DYNAGEN, we have changed our company name
from DYNASOFT to MYNDTRYX ("mind tricks"). We found that the name DYNASOFT
was being used by a number of companies throughout the country. We wanted
a totally original name, hence the change.

MYNDTRYX has a policy of NEVER shipping a product with known bugs, but we
*very regretfully* have had to make an exception for DYNAGEN Shareware
Version 1.1 *due to a problem completely beyond our control*.
! DO NOT PRESS THE [Ctrl Break] KEY COMBO !
One of the 3rd party C++ libraries MYNDTRYX is using in DYNAGEN has a
bug that causes some PC's to hang upon the user pressing [Ctrl Break].
Please do not press this key combo. DYNAGEN would ordinarily just beep
if [Ctrl Break] was pressed anyway because it has no function in the current
version of DYNAGEN.
! THIS BUG HAS ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT ON THE OTHERWISE NORMAL !
! OPERATION OF DYNAGEN !
The vendor of this 3rd party C++ library has promised a fix, but not in the
next few weeks. MYNDTRYX *sincerely* offers an apology to all DYNAGEN
Shareware Version 1.1 users for any inconvenience this may cause. We will
try to eliminate this bug in the next release of DYNAGEN. MYNDTRYX feels
that the user should KNOW about any bugs instead of finding them through
normal program usage.
FAST INTRO - WHAT IS DYNAGEN?
* PLEASE SEE THE "FAST START" SECTION AFTER THIS SECTION BEFORE ACTUALLY *
DYNAGEN is a test data generator, intended for use mainly by programmers and
Much of today's software is plagued by bugs, due mainly to a lack of
thorough testing. Testing software is probably the most boring and tedious
aspect of creating software. It takes time, patience and a bit of ingenuity
on the part of the tester. Although there are currently available a number
of tools which aid in the testing of software, these tools fall mainly in
the category of on-screen data entry automation and the subsequent
reporting of program failures. This is a fine approach to testing software,
but it's not enough. That's where DYNAGEN fits in!
DYNAGEN is totally unique in its approach to assisting in the process of
software testing. As a programmer or consultant, you've no doubt spent a
great deal of time (agonizing time!) doing data entry in order to create
test data for the program that you've spent so much time writing (or your
client has spent so much time paying you to write!). As a professional
or even amateur programmer or consultant, your time and skills are wasted
doing data entry, aren't they? And as a consultant, your clients probably
aren't too happy with you doing data entry at the rate of $75/hr! That's
where DYNAGEN fits in!
DYNAGEN allows you to VERY quickly and VERY easily create test data by
simply answering a few simple questions about the type of data you want to
create. DYNAGEN prompts you for the following information:
=> the name of test data file to create
=> the format of the test data file
-> ASCII Comma Delimited
-> dBASE III/III+
-> dBASE IV 1.1
-> Clipper 5.1
-> FoxPro 1.02
-> QuickSilver 1.3R/dBXL 1.3R
-> Paradox 3.5
=> the number of records to create
* up to 50 in the Shareware version of DYNAGEN
* when you register DYNAGEN, you'll receive, among
other things, the 1000 record commercial version of
=> the type of data fields to create
-> Last Names
-> First Names
-> Company Names
-> Random Dates
-> Random $ Amounts
-> 22 other field types
After you have filled-in/chosen the appropriate fields, pressing the [Alt G]
key combination will generate your file in just couple of seconds! That's
all there is to it!
FAST START - RUNNING DYNAGEN
You start DYNAGEN by typing in at the DOS prompt (ie. C:\>)
and then press the [Enter ] key. After the title "splash" screen appears,
you'll immediately be placed in DYNAGEN's prompt window, which looks like

Enter a unique file name which will store the new records
Moving about the screen is simple and logical: use the arrow keys to go where
you want to go. Other valid movement keys are [Enter], [Tab] and [BackTab].
When you've entered data in the "Output File" or "Record Count" fields, the
left and right arrow keys become field editing keys. Use the other movement
keys to leave these two fields at this time.
Starting from the top left portion of the window, here's how the screen works
and how you interact with it.
First, the top line of the window contains DYNAGEN's menu. The menu choices
Generate DOS Help Quit
are activated by pressing and holding the [Alt] key while pressing the first
letter of the appropriate menu choice, like [Alt G] for the "Generate" menu
choice. NOTE: The "" character to the left of the "Generate" menu choice is
disabled and reserved for future use.
The various menu choices perform the following operations:
"Generate" => Begins the test data generation process. If you've left any
of the appropriate prompts empty, you'll get an error message
telling you what you forgot to fill-in.
"DOS" => Allows you to shell to DOS, leaving only about a 600 byte chunk
of DYNAGEN in memory. The rest of DYNAGEN is swapped out to the
following resources, in this order: extended memory, expanded
memory, disk (root directory). Type in EXIT at the DOS prompt
to return to DYNAGEN.
"Help" => Displays a pop-up help window that explains how to receive
technical support, how to register DYNAGEN and pricing
"Quit" => Allows you to quit DYNAGEN and return to the DOS prompt.
To the far right of the menu choices is the text "[F1] Help". You may press
the [F1] key at any time to receive field-level context sensitive help.
After the menu choices is the first prompt field, "Output File". This is
where you specify the name of the test data file that will be generated.
There is no need to specify an extension - it will automatically be appended
to the file name, depending on the file format you've chosen. The left and
right arrow keys enable field editing and the [Home] and [End] keys take you
to the beginning and end of the field, respectively.
The next prompt, "File Format", is a set of radio push buttons - only one
may be chosen at any one time. You have a choice of file formats to choose
from. Use the [Space Bar] to toggle/choose a file format.
The next prompt is the "Record Count" prompt. This is where you tell DYNAGEN
the number of records that you want it to create. You can enter a value
between 1 and 50.
* THE FULLY REGISTERED COMMERCIAL VERSION OF DYNAGEN GENERATES UP TO 1000 *
Again, the left and right arrow keys enable field editing and the [Home] and
[End] keys take you to the beginning and end of the field, respectively.
Almost done! The next set of prompts are the "Field Type" prompts. These
are check boxes, which mean you can choose as many as you wish by pressing
the [Space Bar] to toggle your choice. The various field types are fairly
obvious from their descriptions. Please press the [F1] key to get a full
description of each of the field types.
Lastly, the bottom line of the prompt window contains a line of help
information to give you "a hand" wherever you're at in DYNAGEN. When you
move between the prompt fields in the window, this line will give you more
information as to what DYNAGEN expects you to do. When you make a mistake,
the error message will also appear here, highlighted in red (instead of the
That's all there is to operating DYNAGEN! DYNAGEN will help you when you
make an error and will also inform you if *it* has a problem with something.
Just a quick closing note: when DYNAGEN creates your data file, the fields
are in the order in which they appear in the prompt window, from top to
bottom, left to right.
