SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
--------------------

You need a VGA system and Microsoft compatible mouse/driver installed.

HOW TO SETUP AND USE THE MENUMATIC PROGRAM:
-------------------------------------------

MenuMatic was designed to be the simplest menu program possible. The program
graphically displays your program descriptions in shadowed text. You launch
your programs by clicking on 3D animated buttons. An active button is orange
a inactive button is blue.

To use the program you first create a list of menu options for MenuMatic to
act upon. To do this you need any plain ascii text editor that you might use
when modifying your autoexec.bat or config.sys files. You can create up to
20 program options to be listed and launched. Each one can be given up to
a 12 character description and must be followed by it's full path name
where the file to be launched can be found. The file you create must bear
the name MMATIC.LST so MenuMatic can find it.

Here is an example MMATIC.LST file created with DOS's "copy con" command;

COPY CON MMATIC.LST [press enter]
Windows
C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM
Auto Desk
C:\AA\AA.EXE
Pro Write
C:\PW\PW.COM
Defrag Disk
C:\NORTON\SPEEDISK.EXE
Backup Drive
C:\DOS\MSBACKUP.EXE /default.set
Jet Fighter
C:\GAMES\JET.EXE
Dazzle
C:\DAZZLE\DAZZLE.EXE -m -b -v -k
Wolfenstein
C:\WOLF1\WOLF3D.EXE
View Gif
C:\GUTIL\VPIC.EXE C:\PICS\AMBER.GIF
[press ctrl-Z then enter to create the file]

The first line is the description of the program, up to 12 characters, any
characters beyond the 12th are ignored by MenuMatic. The second line is the
full path name where MenuMatic can find the file. The path name can be up
to 60 characters long and may include any needed parameters. You can enter
up to 20 program options. Any more then 20 will be ignored by MenuMatic
when it loads the MMATIC.LST file.

IT IS IMPORTANT WHEN ENTERING YOUR PATH NAMES THAT YOU TYPE THE COMPLETE
PROGRAM NAME INCLUDING THE PROGRAMS EXTENSION.

EXAMPLE: c:\windows\win.COM <- program extension name.

Once you have created your MMATIC.LST file place it and the MMATIC.COM file
in your root directory. Type MMATIC then enter to run the program. To exit
the program simply press the escape key.

You can place MMATIC in your autoexec.bat file to be automatically launched
each time you turn on your computer.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
