Documentation for

JUMP DIRECTORY PLUS

(Version 1.7 - March 1990)

Sometime back I wrote a program which would allow users to
change subdirectories without the use of '\' character on the
commadline. This program was well recieved but was not unlike a
myriad of other programs that did the same thing.

Jump Directory Plus takes the supercharged directory change
command a couple of steps forward by allowing you to type in only
the name of the subdirectory (OR FILE) you want without the '\'
character OR PARENT SUBDIRECTORIES on the commandline.

Example: JDP doc

Would search for and move you directly to the
subdirectory "doc" even if the complete path of this
subdirectory was 'C:\WORDPRO\DOC' and you were in the
root directory.

COMMANDLINE SWITCHES:
---------------------

1. Jump Directory Plus will allow you to move to the subdirectory
OF A FILE by means of the '-F' switch. You can also access this
feature of Jump Directory Plus without the '-F' switch by using
wildcards ('?' or '*') in the filename specification on the
commandline.

Examples: JDP thefile.doc -F

Would search for the file 'thefile.doc' and move you
directly to the subdirectory in which that file is
found.

JDP th*.*

Would automatically invoke the filename search
feature. Search for, then move you directly to, the
first subdirectory containing a filename starting
with 'th'.

2. New to release 1.7 of Jump Directory Plus is the ability to
search ALL DRIVES for the subdirectory or filename you ask for.
This feature may not work well if you have no disk in drives A:
or B: or if the latches on these drives are open. In
consideration of this I have added the -A switch. If you use
this switch on the commandline and do not specify a drive
designation in your pathname then Jump Directory Plus will
search ALL DRIVES including A: and B: for you filename or
subdirectory. Even if you do not use the -A switch Jump
Directory Plus will search all drives except A: and B: for your
subdirectory or filename.

3. You can also get a syntax help listing by invoking the program
from the commandline with the '-?' switch. This will give you a
help screen.

P.S.
I hope you like my little Jump Directory program. It
is free, released to the public domain, not to be
sold, etc. However, if you like the program, please
drop me a postcard saying so to the above address.
I would like to know whether anyone out there
besides me is getting any real use out of the
program.
Thank You.
