InContext is Different
----------------------
"This program is probably unlike any other shell you have ever
encountered." -- Alternative Software Bulletin
"The program is different in concept, design and implementation than
anything I've seen." -- Public Brand Systems
"InContext is different, being a full-blown implementation of object-
oriented operation atop a DOS context" -- Factsheet Five
A Good Concept, with Attention to Detail
----------------------------------------
"I suppose InContext could be called a DOS shell, file manager, and time
planner, since it provides many functions that are common to each. Yet
it's probably unlike any other shell you have ever encountered. While
DOS shells abound, this one has had an exceptional amount of thought and
planning behind it." -- Alternative Software Bulletin
"The functions are all well integrated, which provides for very smooth
operation. The manual is excellent, as is the hypertext help system and
tutorial that are built into the program. The installation program is a
model of what all authors should provide with their software." -- Alter-
native Software Bulletin
"InContext has the best user manual I've seen in the industry." --
Dennis Scarff, Product Reviewer, Public Brand Software
In Summary...
-------------
"InContext provides a refreshing new way to organize your computer work
environment." -- Steve Enzer, Alternative Software Bulletin
"[InContext is] a truly flexible and worthwhile environment to work
within. A very impressive package." -- Mike Gunderloy, Factsheet Five

together so well. Congratulations again on a great program."

Intended User
-------------
InContext will be beneficial especially to three kinds of user:
o Moderately or highly experienced users who use their computers
for multiple purposes or applications. Expert users take note!
No other available DOS shell or work environment manager
provides as much power and control as InContext.
o Relatively inexperienced users who want a single work environ-
ment which will provide basic capabilities, but will "grow" as
they learn more about PCs and DOS.
o Experienced personnel who wish to set up computer-based work
environments for other users, regardless of the experience level
of those users. Under these circumstances, InContext provides
much more power and flexibility than other applicable ap-
proaches. PC consultants, MIS managers, and hardware dealers
take note! InContext may be just the tool you need to allow you
to set up customized work environments for your customers.

Preferred File Names for BBSs, Disk Collections
-----------------------------------------------
For consistency, and to help users locate the files, please use the
following filenames.
If the programs and documentation are in separate archive files,
please use the following names (both must be posted):
INCX110D.ZIP InContext Work Environment Manager 1.10 Documents
INCX110P.ZIP InContext Work Environment Manager 1.10 Programs
If the programs and documentation are contained in a single archive
file, please use the following name:
INCXT110.ZIP InContext Work Environment Manager 1.10
If the package is compressed using some other file compression
method, then please use the indicated filename prefixes with ap-
propriate extensions (PAK, ARC, LZH, etc.).
Special Packaging Requirement
-----------------------------
InContext is packaged in a somewhat unusual way. Even if the package
comes in ZIP archive form, it contains the LHA archive/compression
program (version 2.13), and several LHA archive files (filename exten-
sion "LZH"). This is done because InContext uses LHA at run time, and
Vendor.DOC -8- Jan 1993
InContext Version 1.10 Vendor Information
accesses some materials directly from these archives. LHA may not be
removed from this package, except by special permission.

"General" Distribution Requirements Applicable in All Cases
-----------------------------------------------------------
The InContext package is defined as containing all the material listed
in the PACKING.LST text file. If any files listed in the PACKING.LST
text file, or the PACKING.LST file itself, are missing, then the package
is not complete and distribution is forbidden. Please contact us to
obtain a complete package suitable for distribution.
As the exclusive copyright holder for InContext, Rams' Island Software
Vendor.DOC -10- Jan 1993
InContext Version 1.10 Vendor Information
authorizes distribution only in accordance with the following restric-
tions. Deviation from these terms requires prior written permission from
Rams' Island Software.
o The InContext package -- including all related program files and
documentation files -- CANNOT be modified in any way and must be
distributed as a complete package, with only the following
exceptions. Small additions to the package, such as the intro-
ductory text files or installation batch files used by many
shareware disk vendors, are acceptable.
Many BBSs customarily add a small text file (advertisement) to
each archived file. This text file describes the BBS and tells
people that the file was downloaded from that particular BBS.
Other BBSs add a small one-line message with their BBS name and
phone number into the compressed file, which will display when
the file is uncompressed. Either of these methods of mentioning
your BBS are acceptable and may be used, provided the program
and documentation is otherwise unmodified and complete.
o No price or other compensation may be charged for the InContext
package. Subscription BBSs may charge standard connect-time
rates or membership fees, but no special fee may be charged to
download the package. A diskette distribution cost may be
charged for the cost of the diskette, shipping and handling, as
long as the total (per disk) does not exceed US$8.00 in the U.S.
and Canada, or US$12.00 internationally.
o The InContext package CANNOT be sold as part of some other
inclusive package, or included in any commercial software pack-
aging offer, or packaged with hardware, without a written agree-
ment from Rams' Island Software.
o Outdated versions of the InContext package may not be dis-
tributed. If the version you have is over twelve (12) months
old, please contact us to insure that you have the most current
version. This version was released in January, 1993.
o You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile,
disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the
licensed program except as provided in this agreement. Any such
unauthorized use shall result in immediate and automatic ter-
mination of this license.
o Permission to distribute the InContext package is not trans-
ferable, assignable, saleable, or franchisable. Each vendor
wishing to distribute the package must independently satisfy the
terms of this limited distribution license.
Vendor.DOC -11- Jan 1993

the U.S. Government of the computer software and documentation
in this package shall be subject to the restricted rights ap-
plicable to commercial computer software as set forth in sub-
division (b)(3)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer

Contractor/manufacturer is Rams' Island Software, 7644
Lakecliff, Parker, CO 80134-5904.
All rights not expressly granted here are reserved to Rams' Island
Software.
Requirements Applicable to Disk Sets and CD-ROMS
------------------------------------------------
ASP Vendor Members who wish to distribute the InContext package as part
of a collection (such as PsL's MegaDisk set, or a CD-ROM package) may do
so provided that the "General Requirements", and the requirements in
this section, are met. All others must obtain explicit written permis-
sion prior to beginning such a distribution.
If you wish to add the InContext package to such a distribution, please
check the release date of the version you have. If the version is over
six (6) months old, then please contact us to ensure that you have the
most current version. This version was released in January, 1993.
Requirements for Disk-of-the-Month (or Subscription) Distribution
-----------------------------------------------------------------
ASP Vendor Members who wish to distribute the InContext package as part
of a subscription or monthly service may do so provided that the
"General Requirements", and the requirements in this section, are met.
All others must obtain explicit written permission prior to beginning
such a distribution.
You cannot use a Disk-of-the-Month distribution to use up your inventory
of old (out of date) disks. Only current versions may be shipped as
Disk-of-the-Month disks. This version was released in January, 1993.
Requirements Applicable to In-Store Display Racks
-------------------------------------------------
ASP Vendor Members who wish to distribute the InContext package via in-
store display racks may do so provided that the "General Requirements",
and the requirements in this section, are met. All others must obtain
explicit written permission prior to beginning such a distribution.
Vendor.DOC -12- Jan 1993
InContext Version 1.10 Vendor Information
The store display must indicate that "Shareware" is being sold, and
correctly explain what shareware is.
The diskette package must be clearly labelled as shareware, and not as
free or public-domain software.
The diskette package must clearly display the following text:
This is a fully functional evaluation copy of the InContext(TM) Work
Environment Manager, with complete documentation on the disk. If you
find the software suitable and decide to use it on a regular basis,
then a registration fee of $60 is required to be paid to Rams' Island
Software.
Requirements Applicable to Installed Shareware Version
------------------------------------------------------
Dealers and Consultants who wish to install the shareware version of
InContext, as part of their paid services, may do so provided they
satisfy the "General Requirements", above, and the following additional
requirements:
o The entire package contents, including PACKING.LST and ALL
documents, must be left in the installation directory.
o The client must be informed of: (1) the nature of shareware,
(2) the fact that any fees paid to the installer were for the
recommendation and installation, and do not represent a pur-
chase of the software, and (3) the fact that the registration
fee must be paid to Rams' Island Software if the user wishes to
continue use of the package after the trial period.
o The client must be given a hardcopy of the REGISTER.DOC file.

Please Help Us Serve You Better
-------------------------------
We would appreciate copies of anything you print regarding InContext.
Please send us a copy of any reviews, articles, catalog descriptions, or
other information you print or distribute regarding the InContext
package. Thank you for your time and assistance and for supporting the
shareware marketing concept.
ASP Associate Membership Information
------------------------------------
Rams' Island Software gives somewhat preferential treatment to disk
vendors who are ASP Associate Members. This is NOT because we wish to
force vendors to join ASP, and it seems appropriate to offer a few words
of explanation. We insist that any vendor carrying our products satisfy
certain criteria with respect to business practices. These include:
informing the customer about shareware, informing the customer about the
author registration fee, absence of "free software" claims, etc., and
other such matters of appropriate advertising, packaging, and labelling.
ASP Vendor Members agree to these practices as a condition of member-
ship, and are routinely monitored for compliance by ASP. Therefore,
neither the vendor nor Rams' Island Software has to incur any special
effort or expenses in order to convince us that the vendor satisfies our
criteria. Because this substantially reduces our effort, we send our
products to such vendors automatically, and give them permission to
distribute those products without contacting us. We also send our
products automatically to all ASP BBS members.

etc., please contact:

Dr. H. Rudy Ramsey is the founder of Rams' Island Software, a small
software development firm located in Parker, Colorado. Rams' Island
Software makes personal-productivity software for IBM-PCs and compatible
computers.
Dr. Ramsey is an unusual combination of human factors psychologist and
computer scientist. He holds a Ph.D. in experimental psychology, and has
wide experience in basic and applied human factors research, and in
human factors as applied to computer software design. Complementing
these human factors capabilities is his extensive experience in computer
science. He has designed and implemented a variety of interactive sys-
tems, translator-writing systems, and programming language systems for
government and commercial customers.
After spending most of the 1980's designing research systems and product
prototypes for others, he decided it was time to apply this experience
to the development of PC software products. In 1989, he formed Rams'
Island Software, which released its first product, the InContext Work
Environment Manager, in 1991.
Dr. Ramsey is 48, and lives in Parker, Colorado with his wife and one
son (two other sons are in college). He is a Hobie Cat racer and long-

Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
