CDATE was designed to change your filenames date and time stamp.
With CDATE, you can change any filenames date/time to the
current date/time or to a date/time you specify. If you just
want to change the date or possibly just the time, CDATE will
handle that too.
RUNNING CDATE
USAGE: CDATE Path [New Date] [New Time] [/T] [/N]
PATH
CDATE requires that you enter one or more parameters from your
DOS prompt before it will run. The one required parameter is
the Path. This will tell CDATE where to search for your files.
You may enter any legal DOS path. The Path MUST be the first
parameter passed to CDATE. All other optional parameters may be
entered in ANY order. The exception to this is the /T option.
PATH EXAMPLES
1> CDATE B: 5> CDATE C:\Utility\*.*
2> CDATE C: 6> CDATE \Turbo\B?.*
3> CDATE D:\Turbo\Work 7> CDATE *.*
4> CDATE A:*.Com 8> CDATE /T
If you have left off the filename as in examples 1, 2 and 3,
CDATE will search all files. In examples 4, 5, 6 and 7, CDATE
will search for matching filenames. Example 8 searches all
files without verification (See "USING THE SWITCHES"). When
CDATE starts doing its thing, it displays all filenames,
dates and times and awaits your final approval before making
any changes except when using the optional swithes /T or /N.
The switches will be explained later.
OPTIONAL PARAMETERS
(May be entered in ANY order after Path)
[New Date] [New Time] [/T] [/N]
New Date will tell CDATE the date you want your file dates to be
changed to.
NEW DATE EXAMPLES
1> CDATE B: 12/25
2> CDATE C: 12/25/87
3> CDATE \Turbo\Work 7/2
4> CDATE A:\Stuff\*.* 7/2/42
If you leave off the year when entering the date, the current
year will be used assuming you have set the date with the DOS
DATE command when booting up your computer.
New Time will tell CDATE the Time you want your file times to be
changed to.
Page - 1
NEW TIME EXAMPLES
1> CDATE B: 2:15
2> CDATE C: 2:15:00
3> CDATE \Turbo\Work 14:10
4> CDATE A:\Stuff\*.* 16:5
You'll notice that the seconds on the New Time works in the same
manner as New Date except here you are dealing with seconds and
not the year. If you leave off the seconds, CDATE will use 0
seconds.
USING THE SWITCHES
[/T] [/N]
When using CDATE, all date/time changes are verified and shown
before the actual change. Using either of these switches will
NOT allow the user to verify the changes. The changes will be
shown, but once started, they cannot be stopped. Actually, this
is nothing to be worried about anyway. If a mistake was made
when entering a data or time, use CDATE to fix it.
When using /T, you are telling CDATE to use today's Date/Time.
Entering CDATE /T without using a Path will change all dates and
times to today's Date/Time. Using CDATE /T works the same as
CDATE *.* /T. If your Date/Time has not been set from DOS,
CDATE will use 01/01/80 for the date and 00:00:00 for the
time. I was going to have it default to 2000 BC, but I couldn't
figure out how to do it.
When using /N, you are telling CDATE to use the New Date and New
Time you passed it as described above. If you have passed CDATE
incorrect dates and times, no changes will be made.
EXAMPLES USING [/T] or [/N]
1> CDATE *.* /t
2> CDATE *.Pas 12:5 /n
3> CDATE *.com 7/2/42 18:30:50 /n
4> CDATE A:*.* 7/2/42 /n
MAIN MENU OPTIONS
Todays Date/Time New Date/Time Skip ESC to Abort
If you have not used the switches /t or /n, these options will
be available. When the first filename appears, you may use
today's date/time by pressing "T". If you have entered a New
Date or New Time as one of the optional parameters, you may use
the option "N" to set that file with the new date/time or you
may still use the "T" option if you change your mind. Use the
"S" option to leave the date/time unchanged. Hit the ESC key to
abort and return to DOS.

MORE EXAMPLES AND EXPLANATIONS
CDATE *.*
Search for all files on the current logged drive, display and
wait for user response.
CDATE *.* /T
Search for all files on the current logged drive, display and
change all dates and times to today's date and time.
CDATE *.* /N
This command will display the filenames, dates and times but
will not make any changes. When using /N, you must pass either
a date, time or both so CDATE knows what the new date/time is.
CDATE *.PAS 12/25/87 /N
Now we're cooking. Search for all files with the extension .Pas
on the current logged drive, display and change only the date on
those matching files. If only the time was passed, then the
only the time would have been changed.
CDATE CORNCOB.* 7/2/42 18:30:00
Search for all Corncob files with any extension, display dates
and times and wait for a response of either T, N, S or ESC as
described above in the Main Menu Options.
