PanEmul
Overview
PanEmul is a short menu-driven program that sends printer mode
(emulation) codes to Panasonic KX-P1x9x printers. This allows you to
select various graphics modes on your printer without having to flip
DIP switches. Note, however, the mode selected with PanEmul only
lasts until the next printer reset or power-down. DIP switch settings
for selecting printer modes are semi-permanent. Refer to your printer
manual for a more detailed description of printer modes and how DIP
switch setting affect them.
History
PanEmul is the implementation of an idea by Nancy E. Davidson of Des
Moines, Iowa. The author grants all intellectual rights for this
program to Ms. Davidson, and puts all source code, executable code,
and documentary materials in the public domain.
Use
To use PanEmul, copy the PanEmul.exe file into a directory in your
path. Then enter "PanEmul" at the command line to run the program.
Your screen will clear and you will be greeted by a menu of printer
mode options. Press the number corresponding to the mode you want to
use and press. The code for the selected mode will be sent to
your printer. The print head will return to the home position to
signify the code was accepted. You can now use your Panasonic printer
in the selected mode.
If you press without first entering a menu option number, or
you select a number outside the range of possible options, the printer
mode will not change. In this case the print head does not return to
its parked position.
Bugs
If the printer data line is busy when you invoke PanEmul, a run-time
error will result. A corresponding error number will be displayed on
your screen. If this occurs, simply wait until the printer is through
printing and re-run PanEmul. The run-time error causes no damage.
This error could be trapped in the software, but it would add
considerable complexity to the program. Given that my time is limited
and this is a free program, I have opted not to include the trap.
