FAXCOVER Version 2.0 / February 1990

Faxcover is a simple, fast, easy-to-use program that will print
out snappy-looking personalized facsimile cover sheets for you on
any Epson-compatible dot matrix printer, or Epson's GQ-3500 laser
printer.

Version 2.0 includes one major upgrade from the previous 1.x
versions: a scrollable text region allowing up to 20 comment lines
at the bottom of your cover page.

To use FAXCOVER, simply type FAXCOVER at the DOS prompt. When it
starts running, FAXCOVER will read in the contents of the data
file FAXCOVER.DAT, which stores your name and address information.

FAXCOVER then presents you with a simple editing screen, which you
can navigate with your up/down arrow keys between lines, and your
left/right arrow keys within lines. On each line, your Home/End
keys and your Ins/Del keys perform simple cursor movements and
character editing functions as found on most other programs.

At the bottom portion of the screen is the 20-line scrollable
region where you can add up to twenty 65-character lines of
comments or instructions. Use your up/down arrow keys to scroll
through the lines as desired, then press Esc to finish entry and
proceed to the printing prompt.

When all your input is completed, FAXCOVER will let you re-edit
your data by pressing the Space bar, or print your cover sheet by
pressing RETURN. Before or after printing, you may press Esc to
exit FAXCOVER and return to DOS. As you do, FAXCOVER
automatically re-writes your name and address information to the
FAXCOVER.DAT file so you won't need to type it in each time you
use the program.

FAXCOVER was whipped up one afternoon after I got sick of writing

out sloppy fax cover sheets by hand. I used the Borland Turbo
BASIC compiler Version 1.1 and the Borland Turbo BASIC Database
Toolbox for the screen-handling routines. Source code is
available for the main program, however, you will need the
Database Toolbox routines to re-compile the program should you
wish to make changes. Contact me at one of the addresses below if
you would like the source code.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome. FAXCOVER 2.0
incorporates many suggestions from CompuServe users from around
the world. I would love to hear your comments and ideas on this
simple package as well.

You can write me here on CompuServe at 70205,1152. My MCI Mail
address is 178-1759, and you can send me a message on Epson's
internal E-mail system through the gateway Epson has to MCI Mail.
Type EMS: at the MCI Mail To: prompt, then type EAI at the EMS
name, and then type SULLIVAN at the Remote Mailbox Name prompt.
Your message will appear in my mailbox within 5 minutes. I can
also be reached on the Prodigy Service at KMPC52A.

Of course, you can fax me your comments as well! Epson's fax
number at my Chicago office is 708/766-0273.

Here are the improvements already in the works for FAXCOVER 3.0:
- Support for the HP LaserJet Series II & compatibles
- Storage & retreival of commonly-used recipients

Enjoy!
