NFIND program -- Copyright 1988, by J. W. Rider

Function: Find numbers in text files.

Syntax: NFIND outfile

Description:

NFIND searches each line of standard input for the presence
of valid numeric substrings (decimal signed or unsigned integers
or reals). Any numbers found are written to standard output. If
more than one number is found on a single line, the numbers are
written on the same line, each separated by a single space. Lines
that do not contain numbers are ignored.

Example:

Try this (for fun): "DIR | NFIND". You will notice that
dates are treated as a sequence of one unsigned integer and two
negative integers.

Bugs:

Of little practical use. The program was written to
demonstrate the use of the function "PosNum".

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
