TROUBLE SHOOTING
============================================================
.
Modems and Modem software
=========================
.
Question: My modem software doesn't work at 9600 baud with
my Windows and DOS Software.
.
Answer: A OS/2 2.0 VDM (virtual DOS Machine) only provides
1000 VDM interuppts per second. This is too slow
for 9600 baud. Lower the modem speed to 4800 Baud
or lower. This will be addressed in a future
version of OS/2 2.0. APAR# PJ03990.
.
Fax Boards and Fax Software
===========================
.
Question: My Windows Fax Software doesn't work from a
seamless windows session.
.
Answer: Some software does not work correctly in a WINOS2
window, try running it from a full screen WINOS2
session.
.
Question: My fax software doesn't work at 9600 baud with my
Windows and DOS Software.
.
Answer: A OS/2 2.0 VDM (virtual DOS Machine) only provides
1000 interuppts per second. This is too slow for
9600 baud. Lower the fax speed to 4800 Baud or
lower. This will be addressed in a future version
of OS/2 2.0. If you cannot slow down your fax
software, then it will not currently work in OS/2
2.0. APAR# PJ03990.
.
WINOS/2 Scanners and Scanner Software
====================================
.
Question: Logitech Scanman 256 doesn't run on WINOS/2, but
runs in a VDM by itself.
.
Answer: Logitech Scanman uses a DLL which makes a 4B
interrupt call. This interrupt is not supported
under WINOS/2. This interrupt is planned to be
supported in the next release of WINOS/2. No
workaround. APAR#PJ04100- closed PER - available
next release.
.
Question: FOTOTOUCH doesn't run on WIN-OS/2.
.
Answer: FOTOTOUCH uses the same DLL Logitech Scanman uses
which makes a 4B interrupt call. This interrup is
not supported under WINOS/2. It is planned to be
supported in a future release of WINOS/2. No
workaround. APAR#PJ04100 - closed PER - available
next release.
.
Multimedia
==========
.
Question: Soundblaster applications do not work correctly
under WIN-OS/2.
.
Answer: Some Soundblaster and Soundblaster PRO
applications will work OK. However, many
soundblaster applications have problems. Most of
these problem applications try to use more than
1000 interrupts per second to generate sound. The
Parrot program provided with soundblaster is one
of these problem applications. Applications that
use DMA for sound generation instead of the
interrupt method will have a better chance of
running. The 1000 interrupt per second problem is
being addressed. Currently there are no work
arounds if you are experiencing problems with a
Soundblaster board. APAR PJ03959.
.
Question: MIDI software and boards do not work correctly.
.
Answer: Some MIDI software and applications also
experience problems because of the 1000 interrupts
problem. No workaround at this time.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
