INSTALLATION

This file assumes you already are familiar with OS/2 and
the Presentation Manager. If you are not, please read
the appropriate documentation before installing DeDump.

The version of DeDump runs under OS/2 and Presentation Manager
Version 1.10.

Before installing DeDump, make a copy of this disk and store
the original in a safe place. This is the only copy you are
allowed to make under terms of the license agreement.

To install DeDump on your hard disk, copy the program file
(DEDUMP.EXE) to any directory.

In the Presentation Manager Start Programs window, add
DeDump to the list of programs.

USING DEDUMP

To start DeDump, either double-click on DeDump in the
Start Programs window, or double-click on DEDUMP.EXE in
the File Manager window. DeDump also can be opened from
OS/2 by typing DEDUMP, with or without a filename, in
the directory containing DEDUMP.EXE.

When the DeDump window will appear you will see two
pull-down menus at the left end of the Action Bar: File
and Exit. Help is activated by clicking Help at the
right end of the Action Bar.

Using the File menu, you can open a file, print a file,
set screen color preferences and find out about DeDump.

The Exit menu allows you to exit from DeDump or Resume.
The Exit action closes the DeDump window.

There are fast path keys for most menu selections, they
are listed to the right of the menu selection.

The Help menu provides descriptions of DeDump
operations.

To dump a file, choose Open... from the File Menu.
Select the drive, directory and name of the file you
want to open, or type in the path and file name. Click
Open and the file is dumped in hexadecimal and ASCII.

The top and left rows are the addresses. The far right
section is the ASCII version (if it is not visible on
the screen, Maximize the DeDump window). In the center
is the dump information.

Four colors are used in the DeDump utility. The colors
differentiate the addresses, the background, the
printable characters and the non-printable characters.
The colors are user definable and can be modified
through the Set Preferences dialog accessed through the
File Menu. These color settings override the default
Presentation Manager settings. NOTE: If you are using a
monochrome monitor, the color selections are black,
white, dark gray and pale gray.

Once a color is changed, the selection is stored when
DeDump is closed.

To change a color setting, choose Set Preferences...
from the File menu. The Set Preferences dialog appears.

Select the screen area to be changed, and scroll the
color list on the right of the dialog. The current
color is indicated to the right of the entry. Click the
color and Click Ok to save the setting. (Note: Click
Esc=Cancel to remove the dialog and retain the previous
selections.)

To print out the hexadecimal information, choose Print
File from the File menu. A dialog will prompt for
printer selection. Select the printer and click OK to
dump the file or Esc=Cancel. To change or add printers
to this list, use the Control Panel in the Presentation
Manager.

To dump another file, choose Open... from the File menu
and select the file. The file on the screen is replaced
by the newest selection.

That's all there is to it, happy DeDumping!!!

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
