FORMAT.COM 66944 01-21-93 8:40a

This is the latest BETA version of FORMAT.COM for IBM OS/2 2.0. The code
comes directly from IBMand is intended to fix the following problems :

1) Unable to format large partitions with the FAT format. The current
implementation tries to format 5% of the drive and if this fails, the
drive is formatted one sector at a time. The most common reason for
the format to fail is that the drive takes longer than expected to
complete the command. This new beta version only does 1% of the drive
at a time and is much more intelligent about recovering.

If you have had problems formatting your drive because it takes an incredibly
long time to finish (i.e. over 5 hours), give this new version of FORMAT a
try. If you have any problems with it please leave a message for SIGOS2
in the OS/2 2.0 SIG that explains where your problem occurs.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
