MWATCH

The File Ownership Protection NLM

(c) 1992 Dana Consultants

MWATCH is an NLM which initially scans a fileserver for files which do
not have an "owner". After correcting those, it goes into "sleep" mode.
Only when a user is deleted will MWATCH awaken and convert all the files
that are tagged "No owner" to SUPERVISOR. This will ensure that you never
have a file without an owner again!

And MWATCH will scan an entire file server for unowned files, not just a
single Volume.

****************************************************************************
How do "No Owner" files get that way?

Well, these files were created by users who have since been deleted from the
network. On some systems this can cause unexpected problems to occur.

Example: If you limit a users disk space, and a file is not owned,
it cannot be expanded. If someone attempts to save this file Novell will
return a "disk full" error. Not very descriptive is it?
****************************************************************************

MWATCH does the following:

* At startup performs an initial scan to identify and correct
unowned files.

* Go into sleep mode until a user is deleted from the network

* Awakens and scan the file server to correct files that belonged
to the removed user.

* Reports activity on console or into a log file!

* Goes back into "sleep" mode until another user is deleted

*************************** MWATCH DEMO NLM ********************************

The purpose of this demonstration is to show you how MWATCH works in a
real environment. If your system has files tags "No owner", then MWATCH will
report those file to you.

The MWATCH Demonstration program works in the following manner:

* At startup scan and report number of files without an owner.
(Demonstration program does NOT correct these files, just reports
them.)

* Goes into sleep mode until a user is deleted from the network

* Awakens and reports the number of unowned files

* Reports activity on console or into a log file!

* Goes back into sleep mode until another user is deleted

To load the MWATCH NLM on your file server, place the MWATCH.NLM file in
your system directory. At your console enter:

load mwatch

Using the -h option will give you a list of available commands.

load mwatch -h

Once loaded the program will scan and go into sleep mode. To switch back to
the console monitor, press [Ctrl+Esc] and select Console.

You may be required to enter a user-id and password if loading from a remote
console. Enter an ID which has supervisor equivlance (or SUPERVISOR) to ensure
access to all directories and volumes.
