README FOR LOGIN.EXE v3.63

The following files are included in this revision:
LOGIN.EXE 108,375 10-29-91 9:54a
LOG363.DOC (This file)

This update is intended for all versions of NetWare 386 v3.11 and NetWare
286 v2.2. The copy of LOGIN.EXE contained in this file supercedes and
cantains patches also included in the previously released version
LOGIN.EXE v3.58 PTF (107,437 8-13-91 12:13p)

Purpose:

1. Registration Reminder
This version of LOGIN.EXE limits the display of the Registration reminder
message that appears 21 days after the binderies of a v2.2 or v3.11
server have been created. When the Registration message would normally
appear, this LOGIN.EXE will only display the message one time for the
SUPERVISOR. No message will appear for supervisor equivalent users.
When the message is displayed for the SUPERVISOR, it will appear for
about 2 minutes and then go to the DOS prompt if there is no keyboard
intervention as in the case of a batch file running after hours.

2. Synchronization of Workstation Time
This version of LOGIN.EXE also allows the user to specify if login.exe
should synchronize the workstation time with the file server time.
Currently, login always synchronizes the workstation time with the file
server time. It allows the user to specify if this synchronization should
occur by using a new command in the login script. It is as follows:

SET_TIME [ON | OFF]

SET_TIME OFF will not synchronize workstation time with the file server
when logging in.

SET_TIME ON will cause the workstation time to synchronize with the file
server time when logging in. (default)

Note: This change to LOGIN.EXE does not affect the current SHELL.CFG/NET.CFG
SET STATION TIME parameter. The SET STATION TIME parameter controls
whether the shell synchronizes the workstation time with the file
server's time. With this change, LOGIN.EXE can now similarly be
configured.

Installation:

1) Flag LOGIN.EXE in the system directory to SRW.

2) Copy LOGIN.EXE from the system directory to a diskette for
backup purposes.

3) Copy this version of LOGIN.EXE to the system directory.

4) Flag LOGIN.EXE in the system directory to SRO.

This update will be incorporated in future versions of NetWare.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
