* TBP302.DOC is a Techincal Bulletin concerning the ISADISK driver.
* FYI11081.DOC is an FYI giving tips for troubleshooting drive
deactivation.

Problems/Purpose Addressed:

ISADISK.DSK for NetWare v3.11, is meant to replace the
former ISADISK driver that ships with NetWare v3.11.
This file incorporates new default loading parameters along with
improved error handling capabilities.

Subsequent to some rare error conditions, the previous 3.11 ISADISK
driver would exit to the debugger. That error path has been removed
from this driver.

With older ST506/412 and ESDI drives timing issues have been
encountered. Symptoms include drive deactivation and/or a large
number of redirected blocks depending on which of the older
ISADISK drivers is implemented. If the above symptoms are
experienced and this driver does not remedy the problem it is
likely that there is another problem in the disk channel (see
FYI11081.DOC for drive deactivation troubleshooting tips).

This driver no longer requires the '/b' parameter to avoid the
NetWare Ready Sector or CCM Sector search. The default
(no parameter) is to bypass NR or CCM. In order to specify search
for NR or CCM sectors on drives, one must use either '/n' or '/N'
parameter when loading the driver. It is important to note,
however, that unless the drive is known to be a NR or CCM sector
drive, one should avoid the use of the '/n' parameter.

This driver may not require the '/l' parameter in many cases where
the previous ISADISK driver did. The parameter is only to be used
when a controller or paddleboard is configured at I/O=170h. Even
in that case it may not be necessary to use the parameter.

For an explanation of the /b and /l parameters refer to readme.311
located on the SYSTEM-1 disk shipping with NetWare v3.11.

To install this version of ISADISK:

1) Copy ISADISK.DSK to the same directory as the other NLM files on your
system (SYS:SYSTEM is suggested).

2) LOAD ISADISK.DSK as you normally would.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
