STANDARD MIDI FILE TO CMF FILE CONVERTER - mid2cmf.exe ver 1.10
Copyright (c) Creative Technology Pte. Ltd. March 1991
==================================================================
( For internal use only )

This disk contains 6 files :
(1) mid2cmf.exe
(2) melody.ibk
(3) drum.ibk
(4) hellomy.mid (sample MIDI file)
(5) saint.mid (sample MIDI flle)
(6) readme.doc

This program is able to convert MIDI files to CMF file. It only
supports MIDI source files saved using the later version of SEQUENCER
PLUS JUNIOR (SpJr).

The difference between the old version and the new version of SpJr is
the drum channel. The older version of SpJr used channel 16 as drum
channel whereas the later version uses channel 10. If your SEQUENCER
software is the old version, please change all the drum channels to
channel 10 to make sure that the conversion is correct. The future
version of this software will cater for the old version of SpJr also.
It will also be able to convert MIDI files from other sources.

This program will make use of the instruments from the bank files come
together with this disk. The 2 bank files are :
(i) MELODY.IBK
(ii) DRUM.IBK

MAKE SURE THAT THESE 2 FILES ARE IN THE SAME DIRECTORY AS
mid2cmf.exe .

ALL the channels and instruments used will be display. The
instruments' code used is based on the SpJr. (Please refer to SpJr
manual Appendix A5). I have also defined another set of code specially
for drums. There are listed as follow :

CODE INSTRUMENT NAME
==== ===============
128 BASS DRUM
129 SNARE DRUM
130 TOM-TOM
131 CYMBAL
132 HIHAT

IMPORTANT
=========
- If the conversion program hangs and gives you a "Memory Allocation
Failed" error. PLEASE check again using the SpJr to make sure that
the source has been correctly saved because Spjr sometimes make
mistake when saving the files. After saving a file , RELOAD the file
and listen again to check whether it has been correctly saved.
Meanwhile , I am also trying to overcome this problem.

- If you try to convert MIDI files from other sources, the program
will still convert it over to CMF BUT the instruments used may
not be the same as the original songs. In order to overcome this
problem , you can use Spjr to change the instruments.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
