*** Upgrade Note ***

Due to the revisions in the Configuration and Project file formats those files
that have been created with earlier versions of CPE will not be useable. You
may recreate these files with your new version if you are upgrading to this

This version of CPE does not support the previous method of registration or the
use of the .REG file. If you are upgrading to this version from an earlier
release you may delete the file CPE.REG and you should contact 3P Software, Inc
for the required serial number to register this version.

Due to ongoing and persistant problems caused by the on-screen clock (and
also because it was a frill that grabbed memory.) it is no longer part of CPE
effective with version 6.0. This rather useless frill was causing major
problems with some compatible systems and was really fouling things up when
running in either Unix or OS/2 compatibility windows. (Yes, DOS can be run
under a Unix kernal and CPE works quite well there without the clock display)

Version 6.0 of CPE reflects a MAJOR enhancement in MEMORY MANAGEMENT. Unlike
previous versions which held up to 128K of memory when executing commands
version 6.0 releases all available memory except for a minimal 7.6K. Version
6.0 is also EMS, EEMS & HIMEM sensitive and will utilize this memory if it
is available to reduce the amount of memory which it holds during execution.

If CPE is received well within the next 3-6 months we are planning the
following additions and enhancements to the package:

1.) Ability to view and edit DOS ENVIRONMENT variables for use by
your programming utilities.

2.) Ability to pass temporary ENVIRONMENT variables to executables.

3.) Dynamic menus which will actually change themselves as you add /
change the CPE options.

4.) User configurable color settings. (in case you don't like the
default color settings.)

5.) Anything else that our users request and that is within the
relm of possibility.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read:
