Changes in ALINK 1.01 - February 3, 1989

1. The path is first stripped from the object filespec before
building the filespec for the temporay symbol file.

2. Moved 'All rights reserved' message to same line as 'Accfin
Software, International'.

3. Remove blank last line from temporary script file generated for
the DOS Linker.

4. Enabled exit to DOS when 'Must specify a scipt file' error occurs.
Previously the system would hang.

5. Now OVR_NAME.OBJ temporary file gets deleted.

6. An extra occurs after displaying 'OVR size='.

7. When the linker fails to find an object file the path is now
stripped before the error is displayed.

8. The overlay loader now attempts to find the overlay inside the
program file first. If not found a search is done for an external
overlay file in the default directory and then each active path.

9. Each external overlay file now has a unique signature that is
checked to ensure that the correct version of the overlay is
loaded for a particular program.

10. Due to internal design restrictions the <^Break> capability for
interrupting the link process has been disabled.

11. The overlay loader is not able to determine the location of the
program file if execution is done across a drive or directory
boundry. As a result the program file must be in the current
directory or in one of the directories contained in the PATH
environment variable.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read:
