R.R SOFTWARE, INC. SUBMITS
PRE-VALIDATION RESULTS FOR JANUS/ADA
R.R. Software, Inc. has submitted the pre-validation results
for its Janus/Ada compiler to the Wright-Patterson Ada Validation
Facility. The pre-validation results were tendered for the Intel
8086, 80186, 80286 and 80386 chips, under MS-DOS. Passage of the
ACVC 1.9 will make R.R. Software, Inc. the first Ada vendor to
offer validated compilers for all currently available Intel 80X86
computers. The Company's General Manager, James A. Stewart,
remarked "that the validation of Janus/Ada on these computers
will allow Ada to be used by any programmer. We will continue to
offer our compiler for $99.00 after the validation is
completed." The AVF staff is currently scheduled to complete the
testing of the Janus/Ada compiler by December 12, 1987.
The validation of the Janus/Ada compiler marks the
completion of almost seven years of research and development by
the Company, which has marketed Janus/Ada since 1981. Stewart
anticipates updating over 10,000 current users to the validated
version, commenting that "we intend to produce Ada compilers for
all the popular computing systems in the upcoming years."
The company will also be releasing a video tape series
featuring Geoff Gilpin, an Ada author, instructing the viewer in
Ada programming. It will be offered as a stand alone product and
will also be integrated with an unlimited site license for the
Janus/Ada compiler. The retail price for the video series is
$999.00 and the retail price for the Total Learning Curriculum

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS AND Ada WORKING GROUP (SDSAWG)
SOFTWARE ORGANIZATION SUBGROUP
COLLECTING EXAMPLES OF COMPLIANT MAPPINGS
The SDSAWG Software Organization Subgroup will begin
collecting examples of compliant mappings of the DOD-STD-2167A
software organization to Ada into a Subgroup report. The
examples in the report will be helpful to organizations that are
contractually obligated to comply with the standard.
The term "mapping" will be used as such: a mapping defines
the entities "computer software configuration item" (CSCI),
"computer software component" (CSC), and "computer software unit"
(CSU) in terms of entities defined by the "Reference Manual for
the Ada Programming Language", MIL-STD-1815A-1983 (i.e. packages,
subprograms, library units, etc.), and possibly other entities
well understood in their own right (i.e. collections of files).
The final Subgroup report is tentatively scheduled for
release in the first quarter of 1988. A draft table of contents
for the report includes: 1) introduction; 2) documents;
3) compliant mappings; and 4) issues. As a member of the SDSAWG,
you are invited to contribute to any of the sections.
Contributions to section 3, Compliant Mappings should take the
form of a standalone paper (5-10 pages) that presents a mapping
in sufficient detail to be of practical use to a software
development organization. To qualify for inclusion, it must be
shown in the paper that the mapping complies with the standard.
Issues relevant to constructing a compliant mapping will be
presented in section 4.

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND TAME PROJECT
The University of Maryland is using VADS for development of
their TAME (Tailoring an Ada Measurement Environment) project.
The goal is to develop an environment for measuring the
productivity of the Ada development process and the quality of
resultant Ada programs. The environment includes:
- tools for establishing concrete measurement and evaluation
goals
- deriving measures that help achieve these goals
- collecting, validating, and interpreting measurements
TAME is designed to interface with existing APSEs, allowing
online evaluation of development and comparison with previous
projects.
The architectural design of TAME is complete. The logical
structure comprises four layers: the user interface level,
evaluation level, measurement level, and data repository level.
Prototypes of three measurement tools as well as the other levels
have been completed and are to be implemented primarily in Ada on
a SUN-3 under UNIX. Also, two orthogonal subsystems -- security
and configuration management -- operate across various levels of
the structure.
If you are interested in finding out more about this
project, contact Professor Basili at the College Park Campus of
the University of Maryland, Department of Computer Science.

### End of Ada Today###
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
