problems. This set of Lotus 1-2-3 templates and macros will
introduce you to many applications of Lotus 1-2-3 you can use in
your laboratory today to solve your data handeling problems.

Before You Start

Make a back-up copy of the disk before you start. This will
insure you will always have an original copy of the applications.
The easiest way to make a back-up is to use the DOS copy command
or the DOS diskcopy command to copy the contents of the disk to a
blank formatted disk.

Getting Started

Welcome to the World of Lotus 1-2-3 in the Lab. We are sure you

will find these Lotus 1-2-3 Macros and Templates valuable and
thought provoking. There are many ways to use these Macros and
Templates. Here are a few examples:

* Immediately - They can be used immediately to solve the
problem they were developed to solve. You can enter new raw data
values and obtain a new report or graph.

* Customize - You can customize them to perfectly meet your
needs. A Macro or Template may perform 70, 80 or 90 percent of
what you need, you can customize that macro or template and get
exactly what you want.

* Combine - You can combine one or more of these templates
with your own templates to perform new functions, reporting and
graphs.

* Training - Learn new applications of Lotus 1-2-3 by using
these macros and templates. See how specific Lotus commands can
be used to perform various laboratory reporting and graphics.

* New Ideas - Some of these macros and templates will perform
tasks you never thought Lotus 1-2-3 could perform.

What You Will Need

To use these Macros and Templates you will need an IBM PC, XT,
AT, PS/2, or IBM compatible computer with the ability to perform
graphics. You will need a copy of Lotus 1-2-3 version 2 or
greater. If you do not have Lotus 1-2-3 version 2, you can still
upgrade from version 1A for $150. Contact Lotus Development on
how to upgrade your copy of Lotus 1-2-3.

How to Use the Macros and Templates

Each of the Macros and Templates is on disk and ready to use.
Load Lotus 1-2-3 and use the command:


/File Retrieve

to load the Macro or Template you wish to use. You can also
combine one or more of the Macros and Templates with your own
work by using the command:

Macros and Template Description

CONTROL.WK1 Control charting template. This template creates
a control chart using the data in the named range "DATA". Press
F10 to see this chart. This chart was created using two standard
deviations as the control limits. You can alter this value
easily. Control charts are valuable tools in monitoring your
data. A control sample can be run on a regular schedule and the
results charted. If the results of an analysis on the control
sample are outside the control limits the instrument operator
must take action to correct the problem.

CONTROLM.WK1 Control charting template with auto-entry macro.
A menu and macros is added to the control charting template.
Press Alt-m to see the menu. The operator can now enter a new
control chart value or graph the control chart by simply
answering a prompt. This macro shows how to create a menu and
make an easy to use menu driven system using Lotus macros.

CONTRUN.WK1 Control charting template using unbiased (n-1)
STD. The standard deviation function in Lotus 1-2-3 uses the n
(biased) method of computing. This template uses the n-1
(unbiased) standard deviation computation method.

LINE.WK1 Linear Regression and plot template. This
template performs a linear regression and plots the resulting
linear least squares fit line. Press F10 to see the plot.

SECOND.WK1 Quadratic Least Squares Fit and plot template.
This template perform a quatratic regression and plots the

resulting quadratic least squares fit curve. Press F10 to see
the plot.

THIRD.WK1 Third-Order Least Squares Fit and plot template.
This template performs a cubic (third-order) regression and plots
the resulting cubic least squares fit curve. Press F10 to see
the plot.

PREDICT.WK1 Predict value from regression line macro. This
macro will report the predicted value from a regression line.
You enter the X value and the resulting Y value will be
displayed.

POLYPLOT.WK1 Plot a polynomial, template. This template will
plot any polynomial up to fifth order if you know the
coefficients. Enter the coefficients and then press F10 to see
the plot.

1STDERV.WK1 Plot first and second derivative for values. This
template shows how you can plot the first and second derivative
of any function or set of values. Press F10 to see the plots.

ERRORBAR.WK1 Linear Regression with Error Bars Plot macro.
This macro will produce error bars along with a linear least
square fit line. Press F10 to see the plot. The macro reads
values from the table in the upper left corner of the template.
These values are then placed on the template in "blocks" to
create the graph.

CONFIDEN.WK1 Linear Regression with Confidence Lines template.
This template plots confidence intervals for a set of linear
regression data. Confidence intervals are computed from the
amount of potential error in the regression. The larger the
potential error in the regression, the larger (wider apart) the
confidence interval. The "FVAL" is entered from an F-
Distribution table, a table found in most statistics books.
Press F10 to see the regression with confidence intervals.

COMMENT.WK1 Plots with comments or text directly on the plot.
This template shows how any text can be added to a Lotus graph.

COMNUMS.WK1 Plots with text and numbers directly on the plot.
This template shows how text and numeric values can be placed on
a Lotus graph.

SURFACE.WK1 Plot a surface template. This template allows you
to plot weird surface plots. Enter a new set of parameters and a
new graph can be plotted. This template shows the versatility of
Lotus graphics.

MULTIXY.WK1 Plot multiple XY line graphs with diverse data.
You are not limited in the number of sets of data you can plot
using Lotus 1-2-3. On the surface, it would seem you can plot
only 6 sets of data, but in fact you can plot literally as many
sets of data as you wish. By leaving a blank cell between sets

of data, one range can plot multiple lines.

MULSCAT.WK1 Plot multiple XY scatter graph with diverse data.
Scatter plots can also be generated on multiple sets of data.
You are limited to just six sets of data.

SLIDESHW.WK1 Graphics Slide Show macro. This macro allows you
to display many graphs of your data like a slide show. It is
very useful if you need to compare sets of data or need to show
your data to others.

TIMER.WK1 Elasped time keeping macro. This macro will
compute the amount of time you spent using a spreadsheet. It can
also be easily modified to simply print the elasped time between
event like a stop watch. The elasped time along with a date
stamp is placed in the spreadsheet.

DAYOFWEK.WK1 Print the day of the week for any date. This
template, shows how to compute the day of the week from any date
function value.

VIEWGRPH.WK1 Select graphs from a list to display macro. This
macro will allow you to display any of your named graphs. You
simple, make a list of the named graphs and then select the graph
you wish to view from the list.

REACTOR.WK1 Semilog plot of a chemical reaction. This
template plots a semilog plot of a chemical reaction with
concentration on the Y-axis and time on the X-axis. Press F10 to
see the plot.
