SUBJECT: ATI VGAWONDER & ATI OEM VGA1024

There appears to some confusion regarding the differences between the
VGAWONDER and similar products manufactured by ATI Technologies Inc.
The following information will clarify the situation for the benefit of
all our end users and potential purchasers.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

ATI manufactures a range of video and communications products which are
sold through two different channels:

- National Distributors, who in turn supply retail dealers with ATI
products in original packaging including box, manual and disk.

Our retail product line includes the VGAWONDER (ALWAYS supplied with a
Microsoft compatible bus mouse, in a full colour box), EGAWONDER800+,
Graphics Solution, and 2400etc internal and external modems. These
products are designed for use in IBM PC/AT-compatible systems.

All retail products include 2 year warranty from date of purchase and
unlimited technical support, including free software updates to ensure
ongoing compatibility. Feature enhancements such as new drivers may
be subject to a nominal fee. Products returned for warranty repair
require pre-authorization by ATI in the form of an Return Material
Authorization number (RMA#) and must be accompanied by a bill of sale.

- Systems Manufacturers, who "bundle" ATI products with computers or
monitors, packaged under their own name. ATI therefore functions as
the OEM, or Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEM products are often
customized according to the specification of the Systems Manufacturer
to provide special features, and thus will provide optimum performance
and compatibility when used with the Manufacturer's equipment.

Our OEM product line includes the VGA1024, VGA800, VGA640 and other
video boards in various configurations of memory, monitor support, and
other options. Dealers who "unbundle" these products may cause
compatibility problems for their customers. Dealers who misrepresent
OEM product (i.e. invoicing ATI VGAWONDER, but supplying VGA1024 or
other) are in direct violation of laws governing false advertising and
fraud, and therefore risk court action by dissatisfied users.

ATI warranties OEM products directly to the System Manufacturer, who
warranty the complete system to the end user. End users of OEM
products should obtain technical support, software updates and repair
services from the System Manufacturer to ensure that they receive
authorized services and components for the complete system. In cases
where the end user has difficulty contacting the System Manufacturer,
ATI will support the end user directly, but may charge a fee.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
