Here are the simple instructions for interfacing a Nintendo Power Glove
with a PC's parallel port.

DISCLAIMER: This worked for me, but its not my fault if you blow something
up.

The Nintendo Connector:

*1
7**2
6**3 Looking AT the connector on glove cable
5**4

1:Ground
2:Clock
3:Latch
4:Data
5:N/C (lightgun)
6:N/C (lightgun)
7:+5V

Connecting it to the parallel port:

Glove Printer Port
----- ------------
1 18 - GND
2 2 - D0
3 3 - D1
4 13 - SLCT (input)

Power:
Connect Pin 7 on the glove to any location with +5V from the
computer. Pin 1 on any game port is a good place. You can also
use the keyboard connector. On an XT pinout, the +5V connector is pin
5, as follows:
Looking at the back of the computer:
3 1
5 4
2

Be sure to check the voltage if you use any other configuration.

The above listing is from an appendix from the book Virtual Reality
Playhouse by Nicholas Lavroff. The source code is (in my opinion)
the cleanest sampling source code I could find.

The code works for LPT1. If you are using LPT2, then change
INPORT to 0x279, and OUTPORT to 0x278.

Good luck!

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
