This README file contains important, last minute information
in addition to KABOOM.DOC.
KaBoom 1.0 is a game of logic, deduction, and skill. Your
goal is to find all the bombs without setting any of them
off. Options include number of bombs, scan versus show mode
of play, graphics tile set, and digital sounds set. Features
digital sounds via your Sound Blaster, AdLib, Disney Sound
Source, or PC Speaker. Input can be via a mouse, joystick,
or keyboard with both the joystick and keyboard using a
For those of you installing from floppy there is an
installation program (INSTALL.COM) to help you.
This program has been tested on the following:
- a 33MH 486 (VGA) SB16 MSDOS 6.0
- a 25/20MH 386 (VGA) AdLib MSDOS 3.3 and PCDOS 2.1
- a 16/8MH 386SX (VGA) SB 1.5 MSDOS 3.3
- a 12/6MH 286 (VGA) MSDOS 3.1
- a 12/6MH 286 (EGA) MSDOS 3.2.
Please inform us of any problems with other combinations.
We suggest you load this game to your hard disk. The loading
of the images and sounds from floppy can take awhile.
However, loading the game to your hard disk is not required.

PLAYING KABOOM FROM FLOPPY DISK:
KABOOM should be executable directly from the floppy disk.
However, we suggest that you make a backup copy using your
favorite disk duplication program. We strongly suggest that
you install KABOOM on your hard disk. Loading of the
graphics and sounds from floppy disk can take a long time,
however the game will perform very well once the graphics are
1) Insert the floppy disk containing KABOOM into a floppy
disk drive. If this drive is the "B" drive then use "B:"
instead of "A:" in the remaining steps.

3) As the game begins, you will see an opening screen with a
menu asking you to select an input device. Type the
corresponding number of the device you want to use to play the
game (1 for mouse, 2 for joystick, or 3 for keyboard). When the
game board is displayed, use your selected input device to click
on PLAY to start a game.
INSTALLATION TO HARD DISK:
TAG SOFTWARE has included an installation program to ease
your installation of KABOOM to hard disk. However, a disk
vendor may have replaced TAG SOFTWARE's supplied
installation program with their own. These instructions
assume the use of the TAG SOFTWARE installation program. If
a disk vendor has replaced TAG SOFTWARE's supplied
installation program, follow the directions supplied in the
vendor's installation program.
1) Insert the floppy disk containing KABOOM into the
floppy disk drive. If this drive is the "B" drive, use
"B:" instead of "A:" in the remaining steps.
2) At the DOS prompt type:

This installation program will install KABOOM into a
directory on your hard disk. This directory can already exist,
or the installation program will create it as necessary.
4) Change to the directory that you installed KABOOM into
in the step above. To start the game, type:

hard disk. It is important that KABOOM.EXE, KABOOM.OPT,
and the *.IDB and *.SDB files be kept together. Print
out the KABOOM.DOC and REGISTER.DOC files. Remember
that this program is shareware. If you continue to use
it, you need to register it.
2) Change to the directory that you copied KABOOM to in
the step above. Type KABOOM to start the game.
KABOOM starts with the following option settings:
Digital Device: Detect
Input Device: Select
Image File: FLATC.IDB
Sound File: EFFECTS1.SDB
Start on Zero: Yes
Fast Scan: No

Insufficient memory to run program.
Indicates that there was not enough free RAM to run the
program after loading. KABOOM requires 400K free RAM
to operate properly.
Graphics error: Unsupported graphics card.
Sorry, KaBoom can only use EGA/VGA graphics cards.
Indicates that your type of graphics card is not
supported by KABOOM. KABOOM requires an EGA/VGA graphics
Unable to malloc array for images.
Indicates that KABOOM could not allocate enough RAM to
load graphics images. Try unloading some TSR's or if you have
DOS 5.0 or DOS 6.0, loading DOS high.
Unable to load images from .idb file.
KABOOM was unable to load the graphics images. This
is usually a lack of free RAM problem. Try unloading some
TSR's or if you have DOS 5.0 or DOS 6.0, loading DOS high.
() Unable to allocate save image space.
KABOOM was unable to allocate RAM required to manage
the screen properly. This is a lack of free RAM. Try
unloading some TSR's or if you have DOS 5.0 or DOS 6.0, loading
