FUNCUBE is a computer version of the well-known three-dimensional
cube puzzle which was very popular in the early 1980's. The object
of the puzzle is to maneuver the individual small cube faces so that
each of the six surfaces of the large cube contains a single solid
color.


The current version of FUNCUBE requires a mouse, and EGA/VGA graphics.



REGISTRATION
------------
FUNCUBE is distributed as a SHAREWARE program. You are free to use
it, copy it, and distribute it to others. If copies are made, both
the FUNCUBE.EXE, and FUNCUBE.DOC files must be included in unaltered
form. The author requests a registration fee of $15 for an un-
hampered version of the program. Please remit all checks or money-
orders to:

also include some information on when and where you acquired
FUNCUBE, and any comments/suggestions you might have concerning this
program or others that you may want to see.



CONTROLS
--------
The controls for the cube are handled by clicking the LEFT mouse
button while the mouse cursor is located in one of the 'HOT-AREAS'
designated by the circles surrounding the cube.

If the RIGHT mouse button is clicked, while the cursor is anywhere
on the screen, the controls will toggle from 'NON-CUBE' to 'CUBE'
mode as indicated by the 'CUBE' indicator at the left. When the
indicator is colored red (the 'CUBE' mode), the entire cube will
rotate in the selected direction. In the 'NON-CUBE' or 'NORMAL'
mode, only that particular row or column that was selected will
rotate. The 'CUBE' mode may also be toggled by clicking on the
'CUBE' indicator with the LEFT button.


DESIGNATIONS
------------
An area in the upper right corner of the screen displays the last
cube action that was taken via mouse command.

In order to understand the descriptions, think of the cube as having
three ROWS, numbered 1,2,3 from top to bottom, with positive(+)
direction to the right, and negative(-) direction to the left.
Vertically, the cube has six columns numbered 1 thru 6 from left to
right across the top faces; the three columns at the upper left are
cols-1,2,3, and the three columns at the upper right are cols-4,5,6.
Positive(+) column direction is towards the bottom of the screen
(towards the viewer), and negative(-) direction is towards the top
of the screen.

Thus, a display of 'Col 5 Plus' indicates that the last action taken
was a left-button click, in the 'NORMAL' cube mode, while the mouse
cursor was in the center 'HOT-AREA' of the three circles at the
lower left part of the cube, and that the center column of the cube
rotated towards the bottom of the screen (CCW).

The same click, while in the 'CUBE' mode, would display 'Cube DN
Left', where the entire cube would have rotated towards the bottom
of the screen. Note that a click in any of the three circle 'HOT-
AREAS' along that edge of the cube would have the same effect when
in the 'CUBE' mode.



OPTIONS
-------
Located along the left side of the screen are 'OPTION HOT-AREAS'.
LEFT mouse button click while the mouse cursor is within one of
these areas will actuate that function. The options include:

CUBE -- toggles between 'CUBE' and 'NON-CUBE' mode.

REDRAW -- redraws the entire screen, with the cube in it's current
state. (for those who have problems with
mouse 'droppings')

NEW -- generates a new cube.

SAVE -- saves the current cube configuration to disk for later recall.

LOAD -- loads a saved cube from disk.

QUIT -- Quits the program after confirmation. Quit gives the
operator the option of continuing, or returning to DOS.

NOTE: The key can be used to exit the program also.
