Today's fishing rods can be divided into four distinct categories.
Baitcasting, Spinning, Spin-Casting, and Fly Rods. Each has subtle variations,
but these are the basics. For bass fishing, Bait Casting and Spinning rods
seem to be the most popular. Many beginning bass fishermen however, have found
the Spin-Cast rig to be the easiest to learn. Fly fishing for bass is very
popular, and at times can be extremely productive.

Most professional bass fishermen rely on the Bait Casting rod and the
Spinning Rod. Bait Casting equipment usually requires a bit more practice to
become proficient at, but offers tremendous versatility, durability and
reliability. Spinning rods on the other hand, seem to handle small baits
better than casting rods. In general, Spinning rods will cast a bit further
than Bait Casting rods if the same weight lure were used on each. Another
advantage of Bait Casting rods is their ability to utilize heavier line than
Spinning rods.

Spin-casting equipment has many of the benefits of both Bait Casting and
Spinning Rods. It's major drawbacks seem to be that it does not handle
line much above 14lb test well, and it doesn't tend to contend with large
fish and heavy cover as well. With todays new spin-cast reels however, some
of these shortcomings made fade away.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
