Lower West Side is a Type 1 PostScript font created with Fontographer 3.1. It is compatible with Adobe Type Manager version 1.2 or higher. It contains a full upper- and lower-case alphabet, numbers and punctuation -- no diacritics. It is based on the typeface "Shatter" and looks much like the famous signs saying things like "STRESSED OUT?" or "ARE YOUR EYES BAD??" Obviously the typeface is of limited use, except for calculated irritation.

To install Lower West Side, do what you normally do for your other PostScript fonts. I don't really FEEL like telling you what to do. You downloaded this bugger, right?

Lower West Side joins the growing family of Manhattan neighborhood fonts (see also Upper West Side, Upper East Side and Lower East Side -- watch for Soho, Tribeca, West Village and East Village coming soon to an online service near you......). As such, it is not free, but is SHAREWARE. If you like this font and get a kick out of tormenting your fellow workers with it, please make a donation to Columbia University of $2.49 (vot a bargain!!), as follows: make check payable to Columbia University, send it to Cynthia Lemiesz, 703 Dodge Hall, Columbia University, New York, NY 10027, and enclose a letter or card saying "Dear Cynthia: This is money. You know what to do with it. How about those Islanders? Just kidding. I have to go now. Bye."

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
