Welcome to the AMORTIZER

The Amortizer is a program that allows you to calculate
payments for any purchase from a small personal loan to a
mortgage on a home quickly and easily and can print the
results on your screen or your printer.
The Amortizer can also generate an amortization
schedule in the form of a spreadsheet that can be viewed on
your screen or printed.

The AMORTIZER is offered to you as "SHAREWARE"

We encourage the holder of this copy of the AMORTIZER
to distribute it freely. If you find this software to be
useful, you are asked to send a payment of $10.00 to:

The NUMERIC keys

These keys are located along the top row of the
keyboard.
It is recommended that these keys be used for numeric
entry rather than the numeric keypad on the right hand side
of your keyboard.

The ENTRY BOX

All entries are displayed in the Entry Box as they are
typed in from the keyboard.
Entries may be up to nine characters long, and may be
edited by using the Backspace key, or may be aborted by
using the Escape key.

The RETURN & ASTERISK keys

Once an entry has been made in the entry box, the
Return key is then used to send the entry to the Amortizer
for processing.
Once all entries have been made, pressing the Asterisk
key below the Return key causes the Amortizer to calculate.

The ESCAPE key

The Escape key is used to escape the present level of
the program and return to the previous level.
For example, if the entry box has an entry in it,
pressing the Escape key once will clear the entry box;
pressing it once again will cause the Amortizer to ask:

>> EXIT AMORTIZER TO DOS? [Y]-[N]

The BACKSPACE key

The Backspace key lets you edit an entry in the entry
box.
When the Backspace key is pressed, a single character
is erased from the entry box, moving from the right to the
left.

- 2 -

The SPACE BAR

The Space bar is used to move the pointer.
Entries may be made to a particular line by positioning
the pointer on the line where the entry is to be made then
pressing the Return key.

The FUNCTION keys

The Function keys used by the Amortizer are F1 thru F6.
F1 thru F4 are toggle switches which control various
aspects of the Amortizer's operation.
F1 thru F4 may be used in any combination.

The F1 key toggles your line printer ON or OFF. When
ON, all results are sent to your printer.

The F2 key toggles the schedule function ON or OFF.
When ON, a full amortization schedule is produced.

The F3 key toggles the Autocalc function ON or OFF.
When ON, results are produced as soon as new entries are
made.

The F4 key toggles the Autostep function ON or OFF.
When ON, an entry may be stepped from one value to another.

The F5 key accesses the Help Menu.

The F6 key is used to check and/or change the
amortization schedule date.

RANGE of entries

The Amortizer allows entries within the following
ranges:

Principal = $0.01 thru $999,999.96
Year(s) = 1 thru 50
Month(s) = 1 thru 600
Interest = .001% thru 25.000%

Any entries outside of these ranges will cause the
Amortizer to issue an error message.

- 3 -

The MESSAGE line

Any time the Amortizer feels the need to complain about
or question your activities at the keyboard it will print a
message on the lower edge of your screen.
For example, this message would be displayed if a
calculation was made that produced a result larger than
$9,999,999.00.

>> RESULTS TOO LARGE TO DISPLAY

- 4 -

The DATE CHANGE function

The Amortizer dates the schedules it creates according
to the date read from the computer's internal clock/calendar
when the program is loaded.
Changing the Amortizer's schedule date will NOT change
the computer's internal clock/calendar settings.
To change the schedule date, enter the new date using
the same format as the Amortizer uses to display the date,
e.g. JAN/1980.

The Month must be entered using standard abbreviations:
jan,feb,etc.

The virgule "/" must be included.

The Year entered must be within the range of 1900 thru
2099.

- 5 -

The AUTOSTEP function

The Autostep function is used when a series of
calculations are to be made starting with a given value and
incrementing this value until a higher value is reached.
This can be useful when generating a printout of your
figures to use when doing business with automobile buyers or
salespeople, real estate buyers or agents etc.

The CATEGORY window

This window displays the category of entry that will be
autostepped. This is determined by the position of the
pointer on the main display screen. If this is not the
category that you wish to autostep, Escape to the main
display screen and move the pointer.

The START/STOP/STEP box

The top section of the box contains the value autostep
will begin with. This value is taken from the entry
displayed on the Amortizer's main display screen.

RANGE of entries

STOPPING AT - Must be larger than the starting value
but within the range associated with the category being
used.

STEPPING BY - Any value within the range associated
with the category being used.

If the combination of values entered for STOPPING AT
and STEPPING BY will cause the Amortizer to autostep more
than 32,000 times, the Amortizer will issue an error
message.

The ESCAPE key

The Escape key allows you to leave the Autostep setup
procedure and proceed with the program once both the stop
and the step values have been entered.
If one or both of the entries are empty, the Escape key
will abort the Autostep setup procedure.

- 6 -

The AMORTIZATION SCHEDULE

The Amortization Schedule takes the form of a
spreadsheet 4 columns wide and up to 600 rows deep, based on
the number of payments calculated.

3 columns by 20 rows are viewable on the screen at any
one time.

If the schedule and lprinter toggles are used together,
a more extensive schedule is sent to your printer.

The NUMERIC KEYPAD

Use the numeric keypad to move around the spreadsheet.

The NUM LOCK key

If the spreadsheet does not respond to the Numeric
keypad, press the Num Lock key once. This will change the
keypad mode from numeric to directional.
