WHATS.NEW with WORDS
(C)opyright 1990 by Tony Martin
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What's new with the latest release? Below is a revision history.

VERSION 1.2 : April 1, 1990
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Added features:
---------------

þ Definition Search. New function on the menu allows you
to search the text of the entire database for the
occurrence of any string of text. Allows you to find
all words related to a specific topic.

þ Quiz now supports a Definition test. Will show you a
definition and four words to choose from. Only one is
correct.

Other Changes:
--------------

þ WORDS had a fundamental problem whereby two words could
end up pointing to the same definition. This occurred
when you would delete words from the database, and then
add more without first packing the definitions. This
elusive bug has been summarily squashed, and WORDS
databases are now safe to add, delete, and pack in any
order or quantity.

þ When moving the highlight bar in Wordlist, the word
counter on the status line now correctly updates with
the highlight position.

þ Due to the addition of the Definition Search feature,
the capability to instantly quit to DOS from any
location has been removed. You now can quit from any
location to the main menu, where one key quits to DOS.

VERSION 1.1 : February 10, 1990
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Added features:
---------------

þ New selection bar in the Wordlist function. Allows you
to highlight a word on the current screen of words, hit
the ENTER key, and see the definition.

þ QUIZ program now included as part of the shareware
evaluation release.

Other Changes:
--------------

þ Search function now performs a substring search for the
word entered. If you entered "capric" it would find
"capricious".

þ Various bugs squashed.

VERSION 1.0 : 1 September 1989
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Initial release.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
