NOTE: SURFMODL is distributed in two different ways: on diskette and by
downloading from bulletin boards. Below, you will find references to
files ending in a .ARC extension; these refer to the archive files that
are used when SURFMODL is distributed on bulletin boards. If you got
SURFMODL on disk, then you will find directories on the diskette with
the same name as the arcive files, but with the .ARC extension removed.
The directories have the same contents as the .ARC files.

Programs for distribution with SURFMODL
SURFDATA ARC Surfmodl data files
SURFDOC ARC Surfmodl documentation
SURFPROG ARC Surfmodl Program
SURFSRC ARC Surfmodl program source
SURFUTIL ARC Surfmodl utility programs source
EMULATT ARC Makes DEC VAXmate look like AT&T 6300 graphics

To make a SURFMODL working diskette (or working directory on your hard
disk), you will probably want all of the files in the SURFDATA archive
plus several files from the SURFPROG archive. SURFMODL.EXE and the
.BGI file that corresponds to your hardware are necessary (include
all if you're not sure), and the rest of the programs in SURFPROG can
be considered optional -- or can be put on a separate diskette if you
don't have a hard disk.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
