Frequency Ranges / Distance of calls:

4 Mhz For 500 mile contacts
6 MHz used primarily on the Mississippi
8 MHz 2,000 mile contacts
12 MHz Worldwide calls, day or night
16 MHz Worldwide calls, day or evening
22 MHz Worldwide calls, days

The channel frequencies are listed here in pairs; the coast station transmits
on one frequency, the ship on another. You would supposedly need dual VFOs on
your receiver in order to hear both sides of the conversation... however, in
tuning these frequencies I have often heard both sides of the conversation on
the SHIP channel. All broadcasts are in upper-sideband; you will need a USB
or SB mode on your receiver, or at least a BFO in order to understand these
transmissions. Coast station power ranges up to 1000 watts; ship stations are
in the range of 25 - 100 watts, but are possibly "repeated"...
