On the most superficial level a well-crafted espionage novel, but
actually a spoof of the entire genre and superb example of how to
flesh out characters. Funny and enjoyable.

Twain, Mark: LIFE ON THE MISSISSIPPI, Bantam, 1963 edition, $.50.
One of the lesser known Twain books, but one of the best. Retelling
of his learning to be a river pilot as a youth.

Wouk, Herman: MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR, Pocket Books, 1973, ISBN 0-671-81436-2,
$2.50.
The coming of age of an aspiring actress in the Manhattan of the 1930's.
A grand morality tale.
