MMW SYSTEM CALCULATOR
Copyright (c) GM Hughes Electronics, 1990.

HARD DISK INSTALLATION
======================

To run the Calculator from your hard disk, follow these steps...

1. Go to the disk on which you intend to install the program:

C:

2. Create a subdirectory to hold the program.

MD MMW

3. Go into the new subdirectory.

CD MMW

4. Put the disk in a floppy drive and copy the files.

COPY A:*.*

5. Start the program.

MMW

You'll find it will execute much more quickly, since the calcu-
lations are stored in a database.

PRINTING RESULTS
================

To print the results of a calculation, just press the &
buttons at the same time. This will send an exact
copy of your calculator to your printer. For this to work well,
your printer must support the IBM character set.

CONFIGURING YOUR SYSTEM
=======================

The Calculator program takes a considerable amount of RAM (About
400k). If the program is locking up or erroring out, try running
it without any RAM-resident programs in memory.

It's also possible that your configuration file has an insuffi-
cient number of files and buffers allocated. For the Calculator
to function adequately, your CONFIG.SYS file (located in the root
directory) should contain the following statements:

FILES = 20
BUFFERS = 8

These numbers are minimums; the program will work fine with
larger file and buffer assignments.

SETTING THE SCREEN MODE
=======================

Some video boards simulate color on a monochrome monitor through
the use of grey-scales, particularly in the case of laptops.
However, many of these grey-scale mappings render the Calculator
program unreadable. To force the program to display in mono-
chrome mode, type the following statement from DOS:

SET SCREEN=MONO

Rather than re-type this statement each time, you might put it in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

UNSOLVEABLE PROBLEMS
====================

If, after reconfiguring your system and eliminating RAM-resident
programs from memory, the Calculator program still doesn't work,
feel free to call us at (213)517-6400 or (better yet) FAX us at
(213)517-7665. We welcome your comments and suggestions for
future improvements.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
