KiloMarker is a program that is designed for scientist's
that do agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. I made
the program for the purpose of saving time. Instead of plotting
marker points on semi-log graph paper and eyeballing the best fit
line between each point, KiloMarker will take those points and
calculate the best fit line through linear regression. Given the
slope and Y intercept of the line it will extrapolate
experimantal values once given the distance your unknown has
traveled. Although the program is geared towards DNA/RNA
migrations on agarose gels, one should easily be able to adapt
the output for protein gels on SDS-PAGE, e.g. instead of entering
the marker size as Kb (DNA) just enter Kd (protein) (the
principle is the same and the migration is still logarithmic).
After you have entered in your experimental points and got your
results you have the option of having a hard copy printed. I hope
you enjoy the program and it saves you time, it certainly is
better then doing the graphing by hand! If you find the program
useful donations of $5.00 would be appreciated (it did take some
time to get the program pleasent to work with). Send any
suggestions and donations to:
