APPLE (Pyrus malus)

HAS BEEN USED TO TREAT
(1) diarrhea: Excessive and frequent evacuation of watery feces,
usually indicating gastrointestinal distress or disorder.

REPORTED ACTIONS
(1) digestive: Aids digestion.(2) laxative: Stimulates evacuation
of the bowels.

Provides bulk and aids digestion. Peeled and grated apple is excellent
for illnesses involving diarrhea. A fasting diet of one or two days
with only grated apple allowed is effective. Unripe apples are better
for this than ripe ones. Whole apples are a mild laxative. Apple peels
can be dried and made into a tea that is recommended for rheumatic
illness. The seeds contain vitamin B17 and are poisonous when eaten
alone in large quantities. Apple wine is an ancient cure-all. Use
only wine that is at least two years old.

that is characterized by sudden recurring attacks of labored breathing,
chest constriction, and coughing.

a soporific.(3) intoxicant: Intoxicates.

The stems and leaves are smoked to relieve asthma or produce a mild
intoxication. The leaves and seeds added to hemp in India and for
extra effects. Excessive amounts are toxic. May cause blacking out
and severe headaches. Yaqui Indian brujos claims that smoking or ingestion
of the flowers will cause insanity.

alters mood and behavior, and usually induces sleep or stupor.
