Hazardous Materials Hypertext System

The original hazardous materials database released by NOAA in early 1988.
The system, which indexed 2700 chemicals, was built in D-BASE and required
30 megs of disk space. The D-BASE system required 10 meg for the emergency
response information and 20 megs for the indexes. Users reported that the
retrieval times was minutes with some of the indexes.
As an experiment, our hypertext version for retrieving the same emergency
response information for the 2700 chemicals required 12 megs of memory,
with retrieval time on all indexes of less than 10 seconds.
Instructions for this 23-chemical demo system

(1) Copy the files into a separate hard disk directory
(2) Run INSTALL.BAT which adds 9 subdirectories
(3) Type HYPER to run the system
(4) Type QY to quit
