MICHAEL F. HAMMOND
FBI Director William H. Webster announced that the two Hammond brothers have
been taken off the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" program, but are still
on the FBI's Identification Order Criminals list as "WANTED".
Charles Earl Hammond and Michael Frederic Allen Hammond are being sought by the
FBI in connection with the drug-related murders of five individuals and the
wounding of a sixth on May 29, 1980, in Kansas City, Missouri. Their addition
to the "Most Wanted" list marks the fourth time that brothers have appeared
together on the list since the program's inception in 1950.
Michael Frederic Allen Hammond, born January 3, 1945, in Redding, California, is
described as a 5-foot-5-inch, 150 pound white male with red hair and blue eyes.
He has a scar on the left side of his stomach and the tattoos of a cross on his
left arm and "MOM" on his right arm. He has worked as a laborer, roofer welder,
and used the following aliases: Charles Earl Hammond, Michael Allen Hammond,
Michael Fredric Hammond, Michael Frederick Hammond, Michael Frederick Allen
Hammond, Michael Fredrick Hammond, Michael Fredrick Allen Hammond, Mike Hammond,
and "Red".
The Hammond brothers may be accompanied by Charles Earl Hammond's wife, Carolyn
Mae Hammond, who is described as a 5-foot-10-inch, 160 pound white female with
black hair and hazel eyes. She was born September 4, 1940, and is being sought
by the United States Marshals Service for parole violation.
Federal warrants were issued on June 26, 1980, in Kansas City, charging the
Hammond brothers with unlawful interstate flight to avoid prosecution for the
crime of assault with a deadly weapon.
Michael Frederic Allen Hammond has previously convicted of burglary, assulting a
Federal officer, and theft from interstate shipment. Both brothers are reported
users and distributors of narcotics and have been armed with .45-caliber
handguns. Both brothers should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Anyone with information regarding the Hammond brothers is requested to take no
action other than to contact the nearest FBI office, the number of which can be
found on the first page of most telephone directories.
The Hammond brothers became the 392nd and 393rd fugitives to be placed on the
FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" List. Charles Earl Hammond replaces Cleveland
McKinley Davis, who was apprehended by Special Agents of the FBI on January 25,
1985, in New York City. Michael Frederic Allen Hammond replaces Carmine John
Persico, Jr., who was also apprehended in New York by Special Agents on
February 15, 1985.
Social Security Numbers Used: 497-44-5623, 486-44-5623.
Caution: Hammond, a reported user and distributor of narcotics, is being sought
in connection with a multiple homicide in which five persons were shot to death
and another wounded. Hammond may be accompanied by his brother, Charles E.
Hamond, identification order 4871. Each man has been armed with a .45 caliber
handgun in the past and should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
