VICTOR MANUEL GERENA
Victor Manuel Gerena, a 25 year-old security guard wanted in connection with the
armed robbery of approximately seven million dollars from a West Hartford,
Connecticut, security company, has been named to replace Christopher Bernard
Wilder on the FBI's list of "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives," FBI Director William H.
Webster said today.
On September 12, 1983, Gerena, who was reportedly armed with a .38 caliber
revolver, allegedly took two fellow employees hostage. After handcuffing and
binding them, Gerena is reported to have injected the hostages with an unknown
substance to further disable them.
A Federal warrant was issued on September 13, 1983, in Hartford, charging Gerena
with bank robbery, unlawful interstate flight to avoid prosecution for armed
robbery, and theft from interstate shipment.
Born June 24, 1958, in New York, New York, Gerena is described as a
5-foot-6-inch white male. He weighs 168 pounds and has green eyes, brown hair,
and a dark-medium complexion. He reportedly wears a mustache and has a one-inch
scar and mole on his right shoulder blade. Gerena has been employed as a
machinist and security guard and has used Social Security number 046-54-2581.
He has used the following aliases: Victor Ortiz, Victor M. Gerena Ortiz, and
Victor Manuel Gerena Ortiz.
The 386th fugitive to be placed on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list,
Gerena replaces Christopher Bernard Wilder who died of gunshot wounds during a
confrontation with New Hampshire State Police officers on April 13, 1984, in
Colebrook, New Hampshire.
A private company has offered up to $400,000 as a reward for the recovery of the
stolen money and a $100,000 reward for information leading to Gerena's arrest
Gerena should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information
regarding him is requested to take no action other than to contact the nearest
office of the FBI, the number of which can be found on the first page of most
Social Security Number used: 046-54-2581.
Caution: Gerena is being sought in connection with the armed robbery of
approximately $7 million from a security company. He took two security
employees hostage at gunpoint, handcuffed, bound and injected them. Gerena is
believed to be in possession of a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver and
should be considered armed and dangerous.
