G)raphics: Three options tailor thes visual output to your PC system:

N)one, A)scii graphics, C)olor graphics

N)one means that you want only typeable text, like this sentence.

A)scii: Ascii graphics uses all 255 characters in the IBM character set.
Most IBM PC compatible systems can properly receive ASCII graphics.
Your system supports the IBM PC character set if you see characters
such as the heart and straight line DDDD.

C)olor: C)olor graphics uses all 255 IBM characters and the ANSI screen
commands to provide color and sound effects and music. For this to
work properly your communications package must support ANSI. Qmodem
does, Smartcom does not. Your system supports ANSI screen commands
if this [05;32mblinks in green[00m.

Preferences can be changed with the Utilities command G)raphics.

File transfer protocol: The method you want to use to transfer files to
RBBS-PC ("upload") or to obtain files from RBBS-PC ("download").

TIPS:

1. You may want not to have a default transfer protocol if you use a
variety of protocols. Select the N)one option and RBBS-PC will ask for your
preferred protocol before each file transfer.

2. The protocol you want RBBS-PC to use must also be used by your
communications package. Protocols available in RBBS-PC include Ascii (no
error checking), Xmodem, Xmodem/CRC, and Ymodem. Others can be installed
by the Sysop, such as Kermit, Windowed Xmodem, Zmodem, and Batch Ymodem.
Xmodem is the most widely supported, but Ymodem and Zmodem are faster.

3. You can override the default my specifying the protocol on the same
command line as D)ownload or U)pload. E.g. "D;SD.COM;C" downloads file
SD.COM in Xmodem/CRC no matter what the default protocol is.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
