PMDUPS, a PrintMaster Duplicate Graphic Locator

This program may be distributed freely by BBS, Computer clubs and
almost anyone else. The only restrictions are that it not be sold for
profit and all files, including the source code, be distributed with
the program. Distributors of public domain and shareware disks are
exempted if the charge per disk is $6.00 or less. This program is not
public domain. Copyright is retained by the author.
To run the view option the program requires a card & monitor capable
of running in the CGA high resolution mode (640 by 200). EGA and VGA
are OK provided you are not running on a multiscanning monitor like
the larger multisyncs. Some of these monitors can't run at the 15750
Hz horizontal frequency requred by CGA mode. Most of the regular 14
inch multiscanning monitors, like the Multisync II work OK. It does
not run directly on a Hercules compatible monochrome graphic display,
but will do so if you use one of the color simulator programs.
SIMCGA, HGCIBM, etc. The directory screen can run in color or
The only command line switch is /m or -m, use monochrome on the directory
This is required to see the light bar selection of the directory in
monochrome. One way to do this would be to create a batch file called
PMV.BAT to call PMVIEW:
rem batch file to call PMDUPS for Hercules compatible displays
The directory will display up to 63 names per screen. If you happen
to have more than that, Page Down will display any additional files.
Use the arrow keys to move the bar to the desired file. The maximum
number of files is 200. F4 will allow you to log onto another
directory or disk.
The numbers next to the filenames are the number of graphics in each
file, not the file size.

Arrow keys select first file to compare, return to accept.
Press V to preview the selected file. Page Down or space will display
additional screens of graphics. Page Up will return to the previous
screen. Hit Esc to return to the directory screen.
Limits to Comparisons
PMDUPS will only detect bit identical graphics. If the graphic
differs by just one pixel, the duplication will not be detected.
There are also many graphics in the public domain files that have been
flipped, recentered or cleaned up. Any change like this will cause
the duplication to be missed. The name of the graphic does not
matter. Only the graphic data is checked.
Comparing Two Files
To compare two files, move the highlighted bar to the first file.
Press return to select the file. Now move the highlighted bar to the
second file and press return again. If you had selected BIRDS.SDR as
the first file, the duplicate report will be stored to disk in
BIRDS.DUP. The second file to compare may be the same as the first
one. This finds duplicates in a single file.
Comparing One File to Many
If you wish to compare a file to a number of others, but not all in
the directory, you can tag files to compare. Press T to tag and U to
untag files. Tagged files are marked with a +. The grey + and - keys
may also be used to tag and untag files. Press A to tag all files.
Press N to untag all files. Press return to start the graphic
Comparing Against All Other Files.
To compare against all other files, press F8 instead of selecting a
second file. This will compare against everything in the directory,
including a self check. Please note that this will take some time if
you have a large number of files. Since it takes so long, it is
suggested that this only be done on a hard disk.
What Do I Do With The Report
Just getting a report of duplicate graphics does nothing if you can't
get rid of the duplicates. For this I suggest PMLIB by Wes Davis,
728 Creekview Dr., Lawrencefille, GA 30244. It is a free program and
can be found on may BBSs and from public domain disk sellers. The
Authors description is:
"PMLIB provides the ability to combine and extract Printmaster graphic
library files. Within a library icons can be deleted, renamed, and the
order of the icons can be changed."
PMDUPS was written in QuickBASIC and version 4.5 of the compiler was
used. There are some linked assembly language routines. The source
code is included. Please do not separate the program from the source
