Shareware Version 2.0 of MergeIt 10 Feb '92

The following files should be included on this disk. All text files are
pure ascii files, i.e. there are no printer control characters such as
form feeds,etc.

I suggest you first print out MergeIt.Doc (but read "Quick Start" below).

Before doing the tutorial, you'll need to print out Tutor.Txt. (It would also
be helpful to at least look at the PCX image sections EschrB1.PCX and
EschrB2.PCX in an image viewing or painting program). In the tutorial, you
will merge these hand scanned image sections together. The line drawings in
Frame.Doc will not directly print correctly, read this file on your monitor

To get started, copy all these files to one directory, excluding graphic
driver not appropriate to your video system (i.e. if you have hercules,
don't copy the driver file "EgaVga.BGI", otherwise don't copy driver
"Herc.BGI"). Of course, you may choose to not put the documentation
files (*.Txt and *.Doc) on your hard disk.

MergeIt.Doc Text files of documentation on MergeIt
Frame.Doc and on making and using a scanning frame

Tutor.Txt A tutorial text file to use with MergeIt and the sample
PCX files.

MergeIt.Exe Executable hand scanned image merging program.

EgaVga.BGI, Required graphic driver files for ega/vga and
Herc.BGI hercules video systems.

UnRotHlp.ras Graphic help/menu files to display when user can do image
RotTpHlp.ras modification. These MUST be in the same directory as
RotBtHlp.ras MergeIt.Exe.

EschrB1.PCX Sample image files and initial values files to use
EschrB2.PCX in MergeIt tutorial. These files may be compressed
EschrB.INI into 1 file with extension ".Exe" or ".Zip".

Manl50.INI, Initial values files for doing manual merging with image
Manl80.INI sections 5.0" and 8.0" in height.
Manl-01.INI Initial values file for doing manual merging with image

height defined by height of rightmost section after cutting
bottom edge up by 0.1".
All 3 manual merging files cut off 0.1" from the right edge
of the left scanned image.

Register.Txt Information on registering MergeIt and how to contact

*** Quick Startup ***
If you want to try out MergeIt "cold" on your own scanned images and figure
the program out as you go (without doing the tutorial) then I suggest you
start with a printed image in the landscape orientation. It should have a
width under 8" so it can be captured in two adjacent left and right image
scans. Read the first part of "MergeIt.Doc" on 'SetUp-Physical Orientation'
to get the jist of how "MergeIt" merges.
When scanning, allow for a little overlap (~0.1") and try to start each scan
at the same vertical place. Title the right image "ImageA1.pcx" and the left
one "ImageA2.pcx" and use the initial values file "Manl-01.Ini". Choose
unrotated merging to more easily see the merging/trimming process. If you set
your hand scanner to 200dpi, you'll see one inch of image at a time. Use
the cursor keys to get the top edge of the displayed merged region
correctly aligned. It is particularly important that the image overlap be
correct. (If you are working with unrotated images, this corresponds to
<=> motion of each section.) Then turn on auto trimming and work down the
image, doing any manual line insertion/deletion as needed.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read:
