DESCRIPTION:

WHAT AM I? is a utility program written in C for IBM PCs and
compatibles that identifies equipment contained in or attached to
the PC including a complete list of all environment strings set in the
DOS environment. WHAT AM I? is designed to assist computer users,
managers and/or computer departments to quickly and accurately find
out what's "under the hood." Since its first release, WHATAMI has
been enhanced to detect specific types of CPUs and Math
Coprocessors, video adapters, EMS version and to test for the presence
of a Mouse. WHAT AM I? displays information about the following
items:

See page 3 for a sample WHAT AM I? screen.

( a * indicates a new feature )

- System Date and Time
* - What kind of CPU and Math Coprocessor are in the system
- What DOS version is loaded
- Total System RAM (as reported by DOS)
- Total Free RAM
- Total RAM used by DOS, device drivers, resident programs, etc
- How much expanded (EMS, EEMS) memory is in the machine,
* which EMS version is running and how much EMS is available
- If an 80286 or 80386 processor is used, how much extended
memory is in machine
* - What type of Display and Adapter are in use (including
EGA/VGA) and how much display memory is available (EGA/VGA
only)
- # of Parallel Ports
- # of Serial Ports
* - Is a Mouse installed

or LASTDRIVE command in DOS versions 3.0 or greater)
- Available Drive Identifiers. A: to C:, for example
- Current Drive selected (default drive or user-selected)
- Total disk clusters for selected drive
- Total available clusters for selected drive
- Sectors per cluster for selected drive

USING WHAT AM I?:

Command line syntax: WHATAMI

WHATAMI.EXE may be in the current directory or have a path set to
it (use the DOS PATH command). The optional parameter
will cause WHAT AM I? to examine the disk information of a drive
other than the current drive. If is not specified,
WHAT AM I? will examine the current drive. may be any-
thing. WHAT AM I? will only examine the first character and see if
it corresponds to a valid drive identifier. If not, WHAT AM I? re-
ports an error in the disk information section of the report. Next,
WHAT AM I? will report on all environment variables set (e.g. PATH,
PROMPT). If more than 5 environment variables have been set, the pro-
gram will display a flashing message at the bottom of the screen
prompting the user to press any key to see the next group, until all
the environment variables have been displayed.

After WHAT AM I? reports on the equipment installed on your PC, a
flashing message will appear at the bottom of the screen telling you to
press any key to end the report. For those of you who wish to use
the Print Screen key, you may print out this report without affect-
ing the display. After the report has been printed, press any key
to end the report.
