ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
ÃÄ PURPOSE Ä´
ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
þ Display any of the following system configuration files:
CONFIG.SYS 4DOS.INI AUTOEXEC.BAT 4START.BTM 4EXIT.BTM
þ Edit any of the files with the file editor of your choice.
þ Generate a file containing copies of the system files.

ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
ÃÄ STARTING Ä´
ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
csys [/b /f] /b: force monochrome display
/f: create/append to SYSFILES.RPT
ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
ÃÄ USING Ä´
ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
While viewing a file, the following keystrokes are accepted.
Enter, spacebar : move to next file
e, E : edit file currently displayed
f, F : create/append to report file
F1, ? : help
F10, ESC : quit
The program will rotate continuously through the display of any of the system
files that it finds in the root directory of drive C:. Any file longer than
21 lines can be scrolled with the up/down arrow keys. The program quits with
F10 or ESC.

þ TO EDIT þ
When editing is selected, CSYS shells to DOS with the following command:
editor CurrentFile [CurrentFile = file currently displayed]

An editor's name can be specified by using any hex editor, including those
provided with the Norton Utilities or PCTools. To change the name, seek the
text "editor" at sector 72 of CSYS.EXE.

A replacement name may consist of six or fewer than six characters. For
example, "editor" can become "edit," the name of the editor supplied with
DOS 5. When changing the name, overwrite any unused character spaces with
blank spaces.

NOTE: Maximum length for the editor name is 6 characters. Any entry exceeding
this length will have unpredictable and most likely undesirable results.

And, of course, work safely by working only with a copy of the original file.

þ TO GENERATE REPORT FILE þ
CSYS.EXE can generate the report file SYSFILES.RPT, which consists of a copy
of each system configuration file. If SYSFILES.RPT does not exist, it is
created; if it already exists, the new report is appended to it.

The report file can be generated in two ways:
1) Enter f while viewing a file. 2) Run the program with the command line
switch /f. Doing so also bypasses display of the files.

ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
ÃÄ ASSUMPTIONS Ä´
ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
þ The program looks for the system configuration files in C:\.
þ Maximum file length is 50 lines.
þ In the interest of speed, the program performs only minimal error checking.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
