The following provides user documentation for the program

The purpose of is to read the Boot record parameters from the
default drive (A-H) of any IBM or IBM compatible PC, XT, or AT running
under MS-DOS and display the parameters in human-readable format to the
console. (It is important to note that reads from the
absolute disk sector which contains the Boot record. Therefore, a fixed
disk which does not have MS-DOS on its active partition AND which does not
have the MS-DOS Boot record residing on the absolute (Boot) sector will
not likely display correctly to the console.)

Intended Use is intended to provide the user insight into WHAT
parameters reside in a Boot record and HOW they are stored. (BootDump
displays the parameters in the order that it finds them.) is
also intended to provide diagnostic support for any diskette or
disk demonstrating unfamiliar and/or undesirable behavior.

How to Execute the Program

As above, dumps the default drive's Boot record to the
console. Therefore, in order to dump any given disk drive, simply change
the default drive to the desired drive and then load and execute
from the Dos prompt. For example, if the PC boots from drive C, to
examine drive A's Boot record, type:
C:\ (assuming resides in C's root directory.)
Simply typing from drive C (assuming the program exists on
drive A's floppy) will not change the default drive to A:. The dumped
Boot record in this case would still be drive C's - the default drive.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read:
