TITLE : Creating a Program Group for Borland C++ Tools

BACKGROUND
If for some reason you want to recreate the program group
created by the install program, here are instructions for
doing it manually.

These instructions assume Program Manager is your shell
program in Windows. The group is made through Windows,
using Program Manager.

INSTRUCTIONS
1 Load Windows.

2 Pull down the Program Manager's "File" menu.
Select "New..."
Select "Program Group"
Click on the "OK" button.

3 Type BORLAND C++ for the description, then a file name
of your choice for the group file. Our example uses
the file name BC3GRP.GRP.

Now the Borland C++ group has been created and is active but
still contains no icons for the tools included with
Borland C++. The next step is to add an icon for each tool,
one-by-one, thus fill in the Borland C++ group.

4 Pull down the Program Manager's "File" menu.
Select "New..."
Select "Program Item" which is the default.

5 Type TURBO C++ for the description
Type c:\borlandc\bin\tcw.exe for the command line.

Note: If you deviated from the default installation the
path to the executable files shown here may need to be
modified to reflect the changes you've made. Specify the
exact, full DOS path to what would have been the
"c:\borlandc\bin" directory before each executable file
name.

6 Clink on the "OK" button.

You have just installed an icon for Turbo C++ for Windows.
Several other icons still need to be created. Repeat steps
four (4) through six (6) using all of the remaining
executable files. Once you have finished the rest in this
list you're done.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
