3.14 Decided to permit users to purchase the full source code (for
private use only).
Made other minor variations to the handling of foreign currency
registrations.
3.13 Removed the messages about synchronizing the baud rate and sending
the password, and replaced them with a beep so that line noise does
not disturb the screen text so much.
Modified the file transfer timeout process so that TR keeps on
waiting for the transfer to commence until the user presses a
key, rather than just waiting a specified time period. [Note
that this eliminated one parameter from the .TR file.]
3.12 Added a new program, TRREMOVE, to remove TRHOST from memory.
Previously this could be done by TRHOSTIN, but having a
separate program avoided any danger of inadvertently modifying
TRHOST parameters...
3.11 Added remote printing capability. [Note that this required an
extra parameter in the .TR file.]
3.10 Changed TR.EXE and TRGET.EXE so that directories were created
as required during file transfer.
Differences between TeleReplica 1.2 and 3.9
Problems Corrected:
In 1.2, some characters of the file transfer commands were lost at higher
baud rates, due to DOS/BIOS disabling interrupts while updating the
display memory. TR can now delay between sending keys, to give DOS time
to display the last character before TR sends the next one.
At high baud rates, if TR started running before TRHOST, it was possible
for TR to lock after synchronizing baud rate.
TR and TRHOST would sometimes report that the COM port was in use, even
though the user knew it was not in use.
After file transfers, TR used to completely redraw the screen. Hence
the new version is "ready for action" faster after transfers.
If TRTALK was executed directly (not from the local menu in TR) then
both parties would type in the same window; also, if TRTALK were not
terminated via the local menu in TR, then TR was left in a "funny"
mode where non-ascii keys were not transferred correctly. Now TRTALK
sends special messages to TR so that TR always knows what is going on!
When performing an upload from anywhere except the current directory,
TR (prior to 2.7) could only find the first file matching a wildcard
expression.
In versions prior to 2.9, attempting to upload files onto a write-
protected or full disk caused problems (in addition to the obvious
one of not uploading the file!).
In versions prior to 2.9, an aborted file transfer left a
truncated file behind. Now any file that was not completely
transferred is deleted.
New Features Added:
TR is now "DESQview-Aware". (TRHOST is NOT and cannot be.)
TRHOSTIN can now uninstall TRHOST from memory (version 3.2).
TR and TRHOST now support hardware flow control using CTS (version
3.1).
TR and TRHOST now support software flow control using XON/XOFF (version
3.4).
TR and TRHOST now provide support for packet network links.
TR and TRHOST now support COM3, COM4 and custom ports (version 2.6
did not allow custom ports to be entered correctly, version 2.7
attempted to allow COM1/3 or COM2/4 to be used simultaneously, which
seemed to cause more problems than it solved).
TR and TRHOST can be installed to ignore the CARRIER DETECT modem
signal, making it possible to run TR with a three-wire direct PC-PC
link. Note that disabling CD when using a real modem is likely to
cause problems and decrease system security.
TRHOST can be installed to reboot the host PC on loss of carrier. This
is useful where the host PC will be accessed by several remote users,
since each user is "guaranteed" that the host PC will be in a normal
state when they dial in. It also means that if one user disconnects
while (say) logged into a Novell Network account, the next user will
not be able to get access to the account.
TRHOST can be installed to check the RING signal from the modem, and
to enter a command string into the keyboard buffer after a specified
pattern of rings. This allows a setup in which TRHOST will call back
the remote user, which is useful both for security and to ensure the
appropriate party pays for the call!
TR can be installed to avoid sending BREAKs except at the very end of
a session. This is useful where two PCs are being linked via software
running on a mini- or mainframe-computer, since BREAKs tend to be
difficult to handle transparently.
TR can be installed to log into a mini-computer automatically.
TRHOST can be installed to either match baud rate with TR, or to
leave the baud rate fixed.
TRHOST can be installed to send a NULL character every two minutes
of inactivity (useful for maintaining a connection on an "intelligent"
multiplexer that disconnects lines it thinks are idle!).
TR file transfers now maintain the date and time of the files.
When TR shells to DOS the prompt is modified to indicate that TR is
still active in memory.
A local command
through the usual exit menu.
TR can be installed to use any combination of LeftShift, RightShift,
Ctrl and Alt to access local commands. This should help those users
who found that their RightShift key was too close to Del!
When TRHOST reboots the host PC, it now skips performing the memory
test.
TRTALK now informs TR that "talk" mode is required, so that there is
no need to use local TR menu options to run TRTALK.
TRTALK now wraps automatically to the next line.
TRGET and TRPUT now (version 2.7) report each file to the screen as
the file transfer progresses.
TRHOST (version 3.2) sends the cursor position earlier, making it
"feel" more responsive under some circumstances.
TRHOST can now work with the keyboard input buffer directly, rather
than using the BIOS, so that it can bypass BIOSes that filter out
enhanced keys like
TRHOST can now generate a keyboard interrupt (INT 9) after placing
a key into the keyboard buffer.
Other Differences:
When TRHOST and other files are installed by TRHOSTIN, their date
and time remain unchanged.
The manual is now only provided as a plain ASCII text file.
The manual now provides detailed examples of exactly how TR and TRHOST
should be set up in some common applications.
The manual now provides a detailed sample file transfer session.
Since
break etc.
The content of the .TR files is slightly different in version 2.8,
so old .TR files will need to be replaced or updated - compare with
the TR.TR supplied with the current version.
Registration reduced from $50.00 to $25.00!
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
