SW v0.9
READ.ME
(updated 16 April 1991)
Thank you for downloading the IBM-compatible version of SW!
To use SW 0.9 on your IBM-compatible:
1. Log on to GEnie using your regular communications program.
2. Run SW.EXE from within your communications program (if possible), OR
exit your communications program and type "SW" (without the quotes)
at the DOS command prompt.
3. Move to the Stellar Warrior(tm) menu page and enter the game, by
typing "M860;3" (without the quotes) from any GEnie prompt.
If you are playing Stellar Warrior for the first time, you will need to
build a ship _before_ you enter the game. Type "M860;2" (without the
quotes) from any GEnie menu prompt to do so.
If you are playing Stellar Warrior with the SW front end program for the
first time, you will need to type "RED 99" (without the quotes) once you
enter the game, in order to inform Stellar Warrior that you are using
the front end. To return to text-mode usage, type one of the text-mode
RED commands (such as "RED 8").
The following special keys are used to control the SW program:
Tab display map legend
with Shift display first 8 characters of each macro
F keys macros 1 - 10
with Shift macros 11 - 20
with Control macros 21 - 30
with Alt macros 31 - 40
Delete toggle sound on/off
ControlEnd exit program
SW.EXE is configured to use the serial port at COM1 (using IRQ4). If
your modem is connected to COM2 (IRQ3), COM3 (IRQ4), or COM4 (IRQ3), you
can modify your copy of SW to use a different COM port by typing "SW #"
(without the quotes) from the DOS command prompt, where "#" is the
number of the COM port you wish to use. You will only need to execute SW
in this fashion _once_ - the program will modify itself to use the
selected COM port from that time on.
For more complete instructions on using the SW front end, see the
COMPLETE.DOC file, also in this archive. For more complete instructions
on playing Stellar Warrior, select the "Instructions" menu item from the
Stellar Warrior menu page, or type "HELP" or "INFO" from within the game
itself.
Please send us your comments and suggestions (as well as any bug
reports) by selecting the "Feedback to Kesmai" item on the Stellar
Warrior menu page, or by leaving a message in the Stellar Warrior
Category in the Multiplayer Games RoundTable ("M1045" from any GEnie
prompt). Thank you for playing Stellar Warrior!
