A stand alone communications program which will alert you when
someone has called your pager AND will allow you to have access
to your PC on the same phone line will be available FALL 1989.
Write to the address above for additional information.

V2.1 07/01/89
V2.2 08/11/89 Two additional fields, "REDIAL IF BUSY" and "CALL
PAGER HOW MANY TIMES" added.

FONECALL! works with your answering machine and pager to alert you of
incoming calls while you are away from the phone.

Consultants on the road who use a home answering machine will quickly know
when clients have called their answering machine.

Businesspeople who carry a pager for their jobs can use the same pager to
immediately know when a message has been left at their home.

HOW IT WORKS:

1) Tell FONECALL! your pager's phone number and modem information.

2) Leave your answering machine and modem attached to the same phone line.

3) FONECALL! will wait until the message has been left and then it will use
the modem to call your pager. FONECALL! automatically resets itelf after
each call and logs the date and time of each incoming call on the screen.

A DONATION OF $30.00 IS REQUESTED IF YOU USE THIS PROGRAM.
REGISTERED USERS WILL GET A UNRESTRICTED DISKETTE WITH THE ABILITY TO
USE "DIAL 9" SYSTEMS AND DIGITAL DISPLAY PAGERS. THE REGISTERED VERSION
ALSO CONTAINS THE DIALER & LOG OPTIONS.

Using FONECALL

To start FONECALL! type FONECALL and press the [ENTER] key.
After reading the first screen press any key to begin the program.

The menus are operated like Lotus 1-2-3, that is, you may use the arrow
keys to select the appropriate action or you can press the first letter
of the menu option. Press "A" to activate, "D" for the Dialer, "S" for
Settings, etc. Also, the F9 function key has been programmed as the left
arrow key and the F10 function key has been programmed as the right arrow
key so that if you have a 64 key keyboard you don't have to turn off the
NUMLOCK to use the arrow keys. As with LOTUS, each time you make a
selection the top line of the screen displays a "Help Sentence" which
describes the current selection.

FONECALL! SETTINGS

Before ever using the program you must select SETTINGS from the main menu
and enter the appropriate information. Default settings for each field
are contained in the square brackets [] next to each field. Below are
detailed descriptions for each field.

COMM PORT: This is the serial port to which your computer modem is
attached. The default setting is [1] most modems are either attached to
[1] or [2].

MODEM INITIALIZATION [ATV0]: FONECALL! uses numeric result codes from the
modem to determine if a call to the pager has been successful. If the
pager number is busy then it will make 9 more attempts each spaced 30
seconds apart.

RING COUNT [1]: This is the minimum number of rings that the incoming call
must generate for FONECALL! to call the pager. Some answering machines
have a "toll saver" function which allows the phone to ring 4 times if
there are no messages waiting and 1 or 2 times if there are messages
waiting. In this case you must set the RING COUNT to the lower number
of rings (1) so that FONECALL! will call the pager under either
circumstance. Remember, the phone must ring at least this number of
times before FONECALL! will call your pager.

NOTIFICATION CALL WAIT [90]: This is how many seconds FONECALL! will wait
before calling your pager. The default is [90] seconds. You must leave
enough time for the caller to leave a message before FONECALL! attempts
to pick up the phone to call the pager. FONECALL! begins the timer
after the final ring before the answering machine answers the phone.

PHONE TYPE [T]: If your telephone is the push button type that makes tones
then select "T" otherwise select "P" for "pulse".

PAGER PHONE #: This is the number that FONECALL! is to call after a message
is received. The demonstration version only allows a seven digit phone
number hyphens are not required (eg."5551212"). When you register your
copy of FONECALL you will get a new diskette containing an expanded
"PAGER PHONE #" field which will allow a more complete usage as
described below:

IF YOU ARE USING A "DIAL 9" BUSINESS SYSTEM: Use commas to pause the
dialing if you're using an office phone and you must pause for an
outside line. For instance, to dial "9" then pause and dial the number
you would type "9,,5551212".

IF YOU ARE USING A DIGITAL DISPLAY PAGER: Use commas to pause the
dialing between the time that the paging company answers and the time
that additional tone entry is required. For instance if you were to use
"555-1212,,,,999" the pager would dial "555-1212" then pause for four
seconds (hopefully the pager company will have answered in four seconds)
then three nines will be dialed. When three nines appear on your
digital display pager then you know it was the answering machine
calling.

REDIAL IF BUSY: If you select "NO" then the BUSY SIGNAL checking
will be disabled. Select "NO" for your digital display pager.

CALL PAGER HOW MANY TIMES: If your pager number traffic is light
and you've never gotten a busy signal calling this number then
FONECALL should only have to call your pager once and you can
set this field at "1". If you've received busy signals when
calling your pager number then you should set this field to 2
or 3. Of course then you may receive 2 or 3 messages on your
pager when phonecall tries to get through, but they will both
have the same digitally displayed number and they should only
be spaced about a half a minute apart.

LOG FILE NAME [PHONE.LOG]: This is a file where a text listing of outgoing
calls is maintained. The LOG contains the Name, phone number, date,
time and duration of the call. The log function is only available with
registered copies of FONECALL!

DIALER FILE NAME [PHONE.DIR]: This is a file containing a telephone
directory of frequently called numbers. FONECALL! uses your modem to
automatically dial the numbers in the directory for voice phone calls.

TO ACTIVATE FONECALL! select "ACTIVATE" from the main menu.
FONECALL! will wait for an incoming phone call. To test the program you
can press the "R" key to simulate a phone ring. Each time you press the
"R" key FONECALL! will think it has received another ring. So press the
"R" key the appropriate number of times and then watch the screen to make
sure that FONECALL! will call the correct phone number for your pager.
