Bimodem Shell v3.1
(C)opyright 1989 by Randy Blackmond
BasementWare

Bimodem Shell is a menu interface for the Bimodem protocol. This is a
shareware product and if you use it beyond a short evaluation period,
you must register it by following the registration instructions at the
end of this document.

Bimodem Shell allows you to "tag" files for uploading from any drive in
in any directory. For instance, you could tag a file (or files) in one
directory, change to a different drive/directory and tag some more, do it
again and tag a few more (up to 255), etc., then press ESC and be prompted
for the descriptions of all files you tagged. The correct paths to all the
files you tagged is handled automatically. You can also enter the names of
the files you wish to download from the BBS. Having done this you can load
up Bimodem from within the Bimodem Shell. You also have the ability to
edit your BIMODEM.PTH file (via the BIPATH.COM program) and delete the
BIMODEM.PTH file.

Setup for the Bimodem protocol itself is not that hard, but can be a
little confusing. All you need to do to implement Bimodem and the Bimodem
Shell is the following:

Place BIMODEM.COM, BIPATH.COM and BIMSHELL.EXE in your communications
directory. Perform the Bimodem installation by typing BIMODEM /I. The
Bimodem installation screen will pop up on your screen with several fields
for information. The only information you will need to supply is the name
of your communications directory for the first field, the name of the
directory where you wish your Bimodem downloads to go for the second and
then change the field that says "Full" to Y. Don't change anything else!
Press ALT-X to exit and save the new configuration. Bimodem is now fully
configured.

I use Telix for my communications program and I simply assigned BIMSHELL
to the external editor so all I have to do is hit ALT-A to pop up the
shell. Most other communications programs will also allow you to assign
external programs to keys. Refer to your communication program's docs for
instructions on how to do this. All done!

The confusion isn't over yet however. It's a good idea to select all of
the files that want to upload and download before going online with a BBS
(although it's not necessary). Load up your communications program, go
into BIMSHELL and select the files you want to send and receive. THEN
return to your communications program and call the BBS. Start up the
Bimodem transfer on the BBS, then jump back into BIMSHELL and start the
Bimodem transfer on your computer. Then just sit back and watch the bytes
flow!

REVISION HISTORY
----------------
1.0 to 1.1 (5-05-89)
Enable tagging of files for upload in multiple directories. Before,
only tagged files in the current directory would be recognized after
hitting ESCape. Fixed bug in download file name write to Bimodem.Pth.

1.1 to 1.2 (5-06-89)
Fixed scrolling problem when entering descriptions of more than 6
uploads. Added menu selection "Quick Bimodem.Pth List" which lists
the files your are to send/receive and descriptions of files to send.

1.2 to 2.0 (5-17-89)
This is a major revision. Operation of the program remains basically
the same except for the addition of the ability to toggle between
drives with the ALT+[Drive Letter] key sequence. Some of the screens
have changed in appearance. You should note an increase in execution
speed because this version was completely rewritten in Turbo Pascal
(the original was in QuickBASIC 4.5). You'll also note the small size
of the EXE file compared to previous versions of Bimodem Shell. It is
overall a more efficient program. Enjoy

2.0 to 2.1 (5-18-89)
Fixed minor bug that would not allow the last file in a directory to
be included in upload list.

2.1 to 2.2 (5-21-89)
One final, minor bug-fix dealing with the display of the files in the
current directory. Everything should now work as intended.

2.2 to 3.0 (5-29-89)
Prevented the inclusion of spaces in file names for downloads. Added a
few sound effects and a "siren" upon completion of a Bimodem transfer.

3.0 to 3.1 (6-03-89)
Added toggle switch for sound effects.
