yakWare is proud to provide you with what I consider to be the most effective
and comprehensive VGA X mode programming library. YakIcons is unique in that
it's easy to use once learned, very flexible (I could swap out the low-level
functions and make, say, yakIcons for windows, and programs could be easily
converted), and has one saving grace that NO OTHER graphic library of this
complexity does:

It's yours. You own it. If you're reading this, you own this copy of
yakIcons. I want you-- yes, YOU-- to write games. Now. Immediately.
No registering, paying, or anything: YOU OWN a copy of yakIcons. This is
not public domain-- please don't change it and distribute it-- but it's
free shareware. Share it, use it, distribute it, make money with it. Please.

Now, basic courtesy asks that you do certain things about this:

1) Please let me know what you think. I've worked a lot of relatively
thankless hours on this, and my wife and dog are getting grumpy.
2) Please give me your address, if you are interested, so I can get you on
the mooYaks mailing list. This will allow me to provide you with infor-
mation on updates, products produced by your fellow mooYaks, hints on
yakIcons implementation, frequently asked questions, and what have you.
don't delay-- mail today! This isn't registration, by the way; your
copy of yakIcons belonged to you the minute you started reading any of it.
3) If you produce something with yakIcons, let me know. Really generous
folks can feel free to mail me a copy. I want to know what you do with
this.
4) If you make money on something, give me whatever percentage you feel I
deserve of the first thousand bucks or so. If you think yakIcons was
responsible for 20% of your program (and believe me, graphics routines
can take a lot out of you), give me $200 out of your first thousand.
Sound like a lot? Well, so is your $800 out of the deal! This is not
mandatory at all, just courteous. If you use yakIcons, make millions,
and I don't get a cent, I will probably be a little miffed.
5) If you make something and plan on selling it to a major corporation, don't.
call me first. I don't know much about the legality of something like
that, and besides I'd like to keep your program in YOUR hands, not some
corporate magnate's.

If the above terms aren't to your liking, ignore them.

Please send addresses, queries, games, hugs & kisses, or ready cash to:

make checks out (should you feel so inclined) to Victor B. Putz, jr. Yes, I'm
giving my parents' address, since I'll be moving every year for a few years
and they'll know where I'm hiding. Keep in touch-- and good gaming!

I have a pseudo-stable internet mailbox: [email protected]. However,
hackers have been plaguing this fine system, so I don't know how long this
will last. In any case, I'm moving away and may not have internet access;
your best bet is snail-mail.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
